Can you promise me...?

I agree.....at Fir park, such a long trip for me and Glasgow :)

Bring it on (7 miles for me :p)!!!

My old company were in prolonged negotiations to bring back a Anglo-Scottish Cup (think it was the Texaco Cup in the 70s) but for various reasons it proved a non-starter. Their proposal would probably have killed both the Carling Cup in England & the CIS Cup in Scotland but from a smaller club's perspective would have maybe made that sort of game more exciting. Imagine a Celtic, Rangers or even Hearts or Aberdeen match at Roots Hall. As I said, this was deemed not to be viable so they then lowered their sights to arranging a regular one-off final between the respective countries league cup winners but again the respective authorities said no.

GOOD LUCK STEVIE HAMMELL (& if I ever see you wandering around Glasgow & District, I'll shake you by the hand and offer my thanks for all you did over the past 18 months, I can understand why you have family issues, I feel it from the other way around, it's not easy & there have been plenty of late nights when I've wanted to up sticks and go home!)

I agree with this. Thought treatment of JCR was poor.

In all fairness, I don't think any former players should be booed. Even Paynter!

Agree 100%.

Plus Paynter wasn't given a fair chance by either the fans or management!

Plus when Simon Royce and Wayne Gray returned to the hall we made them feel welcome, as a result they played diabolicle against us, booing former players only motivates them in my opinion.

IIRC JCR said he felt the reception he got initially was very good and it only stopped once he had scored, which he attributed to his goal celebration and apologised to the Southend fans for it (I think it was in the Echo)

Stop letting the facts get in the way of a good story.. ;) So some people booed JCR, big deal.. People will always have different opinions of players that leave.. Most people on here want Eastwood to do well, I personally couldnt give a toss and didnt from the day he left. Hammell on the other hand I would like to do well.. Why? er no idea I just do.. to desribe a bit of booing as 'sickening' is being a tad precious

yep 18 months of the most amazing servant I have ever known in the game

:D

Yes, being part of a defence that conceded 80 goals last season and taking every opportunity this season to tell strangers in nightclubs that he didn't want to be here/regretted coming to the club etc showed commitment we haven't seen since the likes of Paul Clark graced Roots Hall. I think we should get him an MBE for services to the game.....;)

and Hammell has been such a fantastic servant to the club.
Not getting a bit carried away here are you? Blimey, the bloke was here a couple of seasons and played about 60 games.

When he left rotherham it was for CCC football and to move back down south...

We weren't in the Championship when he came to us so don't think this is entirely accurate.

This subject has already been covered in detail, JCR didn't jump ship exactly but the club received several bids from Barnsley which improved over time. He was unsettled by this and was dropped from the team, he was perfectly entitled to accept a position at a club paying higher wages and can't be termed a traitor for having done so. He did not leave the club on bad terms and made it clear at the time that he was sad to be going.

I completely disagree with the booing of ex-players unless they have left on extremely bad terms, and I can't think of anyone who falls into that category at present - possibly Foran might in time, if what we are lead to believe did happen. I will continue to acknowledge in a positive way the appearance of any of our ex players who turn up in opposing sides at Roots Hall....and if this unsettles them then all well and good!

Not in the championship but looking pretty sure to go up...

Whilst it took a while for the Barnsley move to go through its clear JCR sees himself as too good for league one and wants to play in the CCC.

Dont blame him for that and Ive never booed any one and wouldnt start with JCR who I thought was a good player but wasnt devastated to see him move on anyway.

Everyone is complaining about me saying if we ever play against a team that has Hammell in - I meant if he moved on from Motherwell to a place like Barnsley, Carlisle or any just south of the scottish border.

again I liked hammell, where as I disliked JCR, my only regret is that I didnt boo him more than I did

That is really, REALLY, pathetic. He wanted to further his career, whats wrong with that? If your boss offered you a promotion at work, you'd jump at it, No?

Our fans would have no reason to boo Hammell. I'm sure his lack of ability to defend will be forgiven!

JCR on the other hand, I can see why some fans would be disgruntled with him.
