Can friendship with opposite sex ever be purely platonic?

Friends or not?

I have just laughed very loudly, and the rest of the desk now thinks I'm mad.

On topic, one of my best friends is female. I've only looked at her thrups once and that was when she sunbathed topless. Couldn't really avoid it.

Perhaps I could have a platonic relationship when I'm 75 or with a bit of luck 80. Life's too short otherwise.

I'd tend to agree about the comment about having lesbian friend(s), however, who in their right mind wouldn't let their mind wander about what they'd get up to either?

A platonic relationship between people of the same sexual orientation is just not possible. From friendships evolve intimacy, with good friendships the iniimacy deepens from which emotion will invariably get entangled.

My four best friends are all women! We all use to work together at our local Sainsburys whilst at college and it just went from there. The only problem is that I once had a thing for one of them. She clearly didn't or doesn't see me in that way so things were or are a bit tricky. I've still got a thing for her but accept its never going to happen. It can be a touch tricky on nights out when I see her with other blokes but ho hum, plenty more fish in the sea and all that eh?! I'd still love to bed her but we have a great relationship, likewise with the my other three girlies. And I'm not gay!

I have one very close friend who is (a) a woman; and (b) a real looker. But for whatever reason, the chemistry was never there - she was a girl whom I was never destined to get to the bedroom.

So, yes - it is definitely possible to have a good female friend. That said, the overwhelming majority of my close friends are men - perhaps it's just me, but there are certain things which men do which, really, only other men can understand. Many of these relate to the puerile enjoyment one gets from one's bodily functions - farting, belching, seeing how far you wee will go, taking a newspaper to the bog. Others relate to the simple pleasures that one can get from being a man - e.g. whistling loudly, downing a pint, having a phall curry.

It is almost impossible to countenance doing any of the above with a woman... which means that a friendship with a bird is always going to have its limitations.

But my friend Nancy shows that it is possible to have a friendship with a good looking bird, and for that relationship not to end up in the bedroom.

:)
