Question Camp Bling Pikeys

ldnfatso

Red Rep King!
Been out today for my first training run and noticed that the Camp Bling pikeys are residing at Cuckoo Corner. Now, i don't go up to that neck of the woods often but does anyone know how long they have been there? Did they relocate there when they left their original Camp or have they recently shown up again? I certainly hadn't noticed em there before!

There was a bit on Telly about them the other night.
They claim the council have gone back on their word. A council spokesman said there were no new plans and they had n o idea what they were on about.

Still, saves going to work for a living.

Or it would do......

...there was an article in the Echo about them some time ago. Apparantly they do work for a living. The camp is only fully inhabited during weekend and public holidays. For normal working days it is only inhabited by people who have taken leave from their work. So rather than assenine and ignorant comments, they should be commended for demonstrating in their own time, at no costs to the Welfare State and without involving any policing costs. In fact I do wonder why some find them so offensive as they do no harm to anyone.

Not sure if thats the case Lord. How long till "activist" like Christiana Tugwell turn up with her kids?

Never done a days work in her life, this came from a BBC article about the original camp

but there are also activists from elsewhere, including 22-year-old Christiana Tugwell, who hit headlines in 1999 when at age 15 she began a protest in nearby Hockley.
Ms Tugwell has been at the site for four months along with 16-month-old son Aaron and partner Owen.

The weirdest thing happened once, she was in the Brush and was ranting at me. Proper ranting, no idea why, that said this was when I was drinking half my body weight in Del Boys weekly. Anyway, I got home and turned the TV on and there she was on some ITV show.

That said, I may have been completely off my face and just dreamt the whole thing.

As I've stated before, I love Priory Park and grew up going there as a kid and took my own kids there. So I have some sympathy with the protests and admire people who give up their own time to protest against losing a chunk of it. Of course it's not as simple as that and there is complex arguments on both sides, but good on them for having the courage of their convictions and beliefs and as Lord Football says they really are doing no harm to anyone.

When you are stuck in a 2 hour tailback leaving the new stadium after a Europa league semi you will wish Priory Park was an eight lane autobahn.

Dont knock the protesters. This piecemeal scheme is a waste of OUR money and over 35 mature trees will be destroyed for VERY little benefit. REAL investment is needed to unlock Southends roads, the Council haven't the money(will or know how?), so they want to 'be seen to be doing something'. A typical Civil Servant's response - if their livelihood depended on results, we would all be in a better place!

Except Priory park is not being touched...it never was going to effect the park, other than the original plan to relocate the footpath inside the park boundary. Quareshi, Parklife etc have bullshitted there way through this campaign for years based solely on a highly emotive peice of misinformation.
The Save propry park campaign stands which were down the high street used to get quite irate when asked exactly what part of the park was going, as they knew it was none of it....

This is about 30 trees maximum, a number of which have already had their replacements planted and it is solely being driven by the residents of the few houses who maybe effected by the widening of the road.
There is a distinct possibility that the council may have to repay to central government a sizable lump of the cost bourne so far should this development get delayed further , the echo today puts that at 5M , thats 5M local council tax payers will have to find because of a protest by a number of people who are not in the borough (Togwell for example was from Rochford)

Which could be the reason they are pushing ahead with this 'watered down' scheme - saving face. What a joy it must be to live in 'Council(or) Land'.

Agreed. I seem to remember a pledge that for every tree cut down, two would be planted, and that 'baby' trees are actually for benefitial to the environment...

I read on the echo website that there is new research by some scottish uni that mature trees are nett CO2 producers as opposed to young trees which are nett Co2 users

I say we get a crack group together armed with a pair of scissors each. Stroll down Priory Crescent mob handed and snip all those stupid yellow ribbons around the trees.

I'm beginning to wonder whether the delays to this widening scheme, will affect the stadium plans? Why would RM be putting up some of the costs of this scheme otherwise?....

Surely it's not a case of the council saying, OK you can have the stadium but you need to provide some finance to help with road improvements?

Let's face it, for those outside of the immediate vicinity, Priory Crescent is the obvious route to the new site. Work will need to be done at some point to cope with the extra traffic on matchdays. Saturdays are a nightmare as it is on that stretch.

Which, at the end of the day is the be all and end all isn't it? As long as Fossets Farm is built then bollocks to anything else....bulldoze anything in the way and just put in a ten lane freeway if that's what it takes!

For me yes.

Like you mate, I have spent all my childhood in Priory Park and of course I would not like to see it come to harm. But losing a row of trees that were not suitable for climbing anyway, is a small price to pay for progression in my eyes.

Bloody good conker trees mind.

But has been mentioned the Park is not being impeded, just a path redirected through it and i personally feel this would be good thing as that section of the park, as a once famous 'Hound' mentioned, is littered with dog crap or used condoms, and in the past MrB's sunday morning vomit.
