Calamity Collis nearly costs us, here's some ratings!

To be honest i'm not that bothered about the mistake, more about how un commanding he is in the air. In your words Flavs is a great keeper, Collis is obviously an average keeper and no better aerially, who do you choose with these assumptions?

Collis is definitely better in the air than Flahavan, granted he's no Peter Cech but he certainly showed that yesterday in very tricky conditions - Flavs stays rooted to his line when balls are delivered into the 6 yard box in DRY weather never mind yesterday's.

I'm not disputing Flahavan is a great shot-stopper (the best we've had since Royce anyway), however his aerial flaws cost us a LOT of goals and would continue to do so if he came back in. Collis isn't as spectacular (although at times has shown himself to be a good shot-stopper) but on the whole is certainly more dependable in terms of all-round game. The fact the defence definitely look more confident with Collis behind is also an important factor.

Fact is no-one can afford a keeper who is that hesitant in the air, especially if they're staying rooted for balls into the 6 yard box. If Flavs improved this side of his game he'd be potentially a Premiership goalkeeper, however he's been with us a long time now and is still dreadful aerially and I hate to say it but if he could improve that part of his game it would've happened by now.

After watching replay again. i still think that Collis was a bit unlucky with the shot! i would still keep him in goal over "i cant catch a ball" Flahavan

Some people on here make me laugh, a player makes 1 mistake and "bang" all jump on him and start chanting someone elses name.

So much for the blue voice and lets get behind the team (not saying everyone here by the way just a few idiots) its just making his confidence even worse!

3 points is 3 points but as some people think we should never make a mistake its a surprise we aren't in the premier league!

Rant over lol

me @ 6.02pm on an earlier thread

As soon as Collis parried out that shot, I thought "oh well, Wiggys just knocked 7/8 points off his rating". I predict wiggy will give him 2/3.

:D

Something similair was said in the South Upper as soon as the goal went in. If it wasn't so predictable it would be funny.

I think that in those atrocious conditions Collis did well. Despite the win we didn't play well as a team yesterday, and there were a number of Southend players who did worse than the goalkeeper.

I don't think that it was as bad as to drop collis, and think that maher could be blamed for failing to clear the ball just before.. shame because he got alot better as the game went on!

Can't Wiggy be banned for knowing **** all about football and spouting sh1te constantly.

Giving your own crap ratings really dosen't make him/her an expert.

WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK!!!

I don't bother even reading them now :finger:

Collis 3 caught 2 dolly drops, stayed rooted to his line for 5 crosses and parried an easy shot straight to the forward, time to bring in Mr. Reliable!

Have to admit - it didn't look good to begin with, but with hindsight, defending the South goal was a bit treacherous...

Hunt 6 done ok, distribution not great

Going to have to disagree with you there - thought Hunt was excellent today... but has to work on his crossing ! !

Hammel 6 good ball in for Barretts goal but once again poor distribution

Crossing was not good - but the top of the pitch did start moving about...

Barrett 7 good defending and goal, had to go off injured

I think lesser men would have gone off straight away. Tilly's interview summed it up when he said "that's what you get with AB"...

Clarke 6 defended ok but back to his poor distribution, was it the pitch?

Think it was. Worth more than a 6 though...

Richards 6 hoof it merchant, bench is about his level

We'll see on Tuesday if AB can't play...

Macca 5 hardly noticed him, totally different to Wednesday

Agreed - but still one of the best four midfielders we have. £30k? Preston must be kicking themselves...

Bailey 6 better than Macca but still a bit subdued

Agreed. But he let's Maher, Gower et al play...

Gower 7 good goal and need him to show his class for us to tick

That is why he stays on when others are subbed. Can always be relied on to pop up at the death.

Morgan 6 another a bit quiet but like what he adds

Just wish he could finish...

Clarke 7 strong as an ox, classy and we need to sign him

Totally agree. Tilly - write this down a hundred times, and get Ron to give him a decent contract...

Macdonald 6 ran around, maybe get a better guide against Oxford

Agreed again (have I been drinking?)

Maher 7 started dodgy but best of the midfielders

Bailey and Macca do the running for Maher to dictate the play. Still have a feeling he is carrying a knock though.

Ref 9 another one that let it flow, well done!

Best thing you can say about a ref, is that I never noticed him. Have to say that about this ref...

All in all, six points from two games - bring on Oxford...

Liar, you love em'

I still can't get over how a thread obviously designed to wind people up, actually works.

wiggy in moaning about Collis shocker. Jesus people why bother responding in your droves!? :p

An interesting debate. For my money Collis should be the number one at the moment but we are lucky to have two decent 'keepers. I thought that Collis could have done better with the Swindon goal but was not in a position to see whether it swerved or not so I defer to those who confirm that this was the case. It is a little strange that no one has mentioned the excellent save that Collis made with his feet to keep the score at 1-0. 2-0 down and the game could have been irretrievable.

Wiggy, you are a proper t w a t....You are an SUFC supporter so get behind the 11 men who are on the pitch (This obviously does not apply when Harrold is on the pitch):)

Oh we've considered it ;)

Seriously though, absolutely not. Wiggy can be pretty exasperating, but her views do create lively debate on the board.

And for what's worth (i.e. not a lot) ....Collis in.

Yes we went one Nil down

Yes 'maybe' Collis was at fault.
yes 'maybe' Maher should have cleared the ball.

HOWEVER

Conditions were absymal, there player did EXACTLY what all players should do in those conditions (wet and windy and cold), try a shot at the keeper, difficult to catch, difficult judge and difficult to do any thing with (no matter who the goal keeper was), he however then proceeded to push a good shot wide.

WE then equalised,
We also NEVER conceeded another goal.
We then scored again and won.

Not sure what this thread is about ?? Blaiming a player, because we dont keep a clean sheet every game ?? Thats a realistic target for a lower league club !!

The shouts for 'Flavs' after that goal from the idiotic West Stand (behind me) was nothing more than a f**King disgrace, people really should read the dictionary about the term support !!. yes I like Flavs when he was in goal for us, but to cheer him after 3 mins in this was a f**King joke and goes to prove that the idiocy percentage in the home is end is stupidly high !!

Lets Praise , be a nice change !!
