BT Cup Round 5

MrB

Life President
256 teams left:

10. Geoff_Boycotts_Grandmother XI (+1)
138. Gambero CC (+20)
158. Crabbys Catchers (+28)
168. Southend (+34)
201. ShrimperZone CC (+65)
213. Old Chelmsfordians (+78)
244. Southend Utd CC (+134)
247. Southend United (+155)

Done well to get this far, all home games except YB. I'm playing the Pakistan U-19 manager who gave Kev a shoeing in the 20/20's. I might just have a chance though, his batting (wonderful) vs my bowling (remarkable/exceptional). I can TIE on Friday so you never know.

Oh and my intention is to hold off doing the SZ Cup premier fixtures until next week as there will be 7 teams per division so if someone gets through they can have a bye in the first week.

My opponents have a £43K medium pacer opening up, but after that I think the best they have is quality, with a couple of strongs. Leacock, the great bowler they have, opens up and goes through 7. Might consider trying to see him off and have someone like Hudson in at 4. Would he rip through my top order so much that it's pointless? We'd lose easily if Hudson and Davenport went cheaply.

They batting is similar in strength to mine, with the middle order quality and the top order competent (mine is the other way round). So basically it's between his star player (in superb form) and my side. Let's hope he drops 2 or 3 levels in form on Monday.

Closer inspection shows I have what looks like a sensational, a wonderful and couple of remarkables to get rid of. After No. 5 they have a couple of respectables. If Suthers hits form we may just sneak this.

Probably a good job I didn't get through. Would have copped Sky Blues in the next round. Wonderful / Superb Batting, Superb / Elite bowling. I could see carnage ensuing !

No, I understood, but my bowling have improved since last year,

Then:
Seam Bowling: competent
Spin Bowling: respectable

Now:
Seam Bowling: respectable
Spin Bowling: remarkable

My apologies.

That's not disasterous bowling by any stretch of the imagination. Not in B's league admittedly, but not rubbish.

Hmm, well after my unexpected win I've got a level 3 team:

Army of the North
Top Order: sensational
Middle Order: respectable
Lower Order: woeful
Seam Bowling: proficient
Spin Bowling: remarkable
Fielding: mediocre

If their attack was the other way around I may have had a chance but with that spin rating on my dusty pitch it's not going too last long....

A bit early in the season to write myself off but I think my latest purchase has considerably weakened my team in the short term. I've signed a Pakistan U19 bowler prospect so that I can increase his nets before the U19 season starts, also he'll need to be rested from all cup and league games to allow his PFL to recover towards sublime. So I've sold a strong/quality batsman, quality/respectable bowler and replaced with a player I won't be able to play much/at all this season. A great move for Pakistan U19, not a great move for EGV though.
Posted by my cup opponent on his league sledging. Encouraging news!

Sunday forecast is partially cloudy in Essex.

Southend United v Geoff_Boycotts_Grandmother XI
Southend Utd CC v A Few Cheap Gins CC
Old Chelmsfordians v Army of the North
ShrimperZone CC v Eleven Golden Vampires
Whos your Daddy v Monkey Mania
Southend v White Lodge Wizards
Crabbys Catchers v All Star XI
Gambero C.C. v Sharpes Company

We'll be doing well to get more than 2 or 3 through here!

I've no chance, unless I get 2 bowlers by the game! Two I'm targetting end tonight though, hoping to snap up both for the 5.8 million I have.

Bloody hell, opted to bowl first and this happened:

End of Over 44: 165-10, runrate=3.75
Resha 10-2-24-4
Leacock* 0 (2 balls)

New signing Resha, who cost 4.8 million on Friday night, doing superbly. Another game like Friday's in store here, as they've got a bowler on 43K per week (what skill level must that be?!)

Nice work. EGV made 278-2 in their 50, not sure how good that is as a total. Hard and Fast pitch so I should have a chance of making it.

Good restricting job there. What level is Sutherland now? Would've expected him to strike more often. Added your game to multiview, will be rooting for you. If you're 50-0 after 10 I'd fancy your lot to win.

End of Over 13: 57-1, runrate=4.38, reqrunrate=2.95 (165-10)
Leacock 7-2-27-1
Hudson* 22 (40 balls)
Davenport 33 (37 balls)

Last Wicket: Piercy b. Leacock 0 (FOW: 1/1)

Seen off Leacock for only the loss of Piercy, which was expected. Should win from here, which would signal my furthest ever progress :)

Not my best ever total, but a couple of early wickets helped, and the 14 off Mapes' last over ddin't help

End of Over 13: 73-2, runrate=5.62, reqrunrate=4.84 (251-6)
Mapes 7-0-46-1
Pembridge* 21 (27 balls)
Thomas 24 (16 balls)

Last Wicket: Finnan c. Boateng b. Mapes 22 (FOW: 41/2)
