BT Cup Round 3

MrB

Life President
Starts getting that little bit harder now.

Ours should have been an easy TIE however there's no accounting for the actions of my opening batsmen:

1.4 W Gajanayake to Sajjad
Got him! That pitched on middle and straightened down the line, taking Sajjad on the pad as he tried to flick it away on the on side. Intelligent bowling from Gajanayake.

3.3 W Gajanayake to Botham
Through the gap; Botham was all at sea. Superb bowling from Gajanayake.

18.3 W Nahal to Holsgrove
Went for a big swing, went for a bigger walk..... That's not how to do it kids!
18.2 W Nahal to Curtis
Curtis steps to square leg, closes his eyes and swings the bat. Clean bowled! Total village!
18.1 W Nahal to Askew
Askew saunters down the pitch, swinging like a windmill. Shaw has an age to remove the bails.

That's a hat trick for their respectable bowler and a golden duck for Curtis. I wish I'd just sold him when he popped! The tail managed to bring us up to 143 and fortunately our rather strong bowling attack has worked it's magic in a better way than I could ever have expected:

End of Over 5: 3-8, runrate=0.60, reqrunrate=3.13 (143-10)
Mushtaq 3-1-2-3
Percival* 2 (2 balls)
Nahal 0 (3 balls)
Last Wicket: Brittain c. Askew b. Mushtaq 0 (FOW: 3/8)

Howzat! :guns:

All out for 266 after this happened:

48.6 W Hatred to Deakin
And that's out! Shorter ball, cut in the air and straight to Greenacre at point!
48.5 W Hatred to Allen
OUT! Excellent wicketkeeping! Sekgoma took those bails off like there was no tomorrow!
48.4 W Hatred to John
Movement from the pitch has seen John bowled, that ball looked fairly innocuous at first.
48.3 W Hatred to Lever
That hit him plumb in front. Straightforward decision for the umpire.
48.2 W Hatred to Clark
Got him! He's gone! The ball swings into Clark who doesn't move forward and the ball sneaks through the gap, hits the pad and knocks over the off stump.
48.1 W Hatred to Piercy
OUT! A huge mistimed pull shot, the ball balloons in the air and Sangha takes an easy catch straight down his throat.

Bit excessive, that.

A small bit of resistance from their tail but we're through:

And that's the end of the match. ShrimperZone CC won by 125 runs.
ShrimperZone CC 143-10
Chopper's champions 18-10

6-12 for Sutherland, 3-4 for Mushtaq. Who needs batsmen anyway.....

Bartlett and Sugden both out early and our run rate has slowed right down

End of Over 21: 95-3, runrate=4.52, reqrunrate=2.07 (154-10)
Wright 1-0-1-1
Drury* 1 (2 balls)
Mott 18 (35 balls)

Last Wicket: Flood c. Elliott b. Wright 33 (FOW: 94/3)

End of Over 22: 105-2, runrate=4.77, reqrunrate=5.79 (266-10)
Clark 1-0-5-0
Bloomfield* 24 (25 balls)
Perch 41 (60 balls)

Looks like it's going to be tight. The side I'm playing are in my league too, so it's a good test. If I lose narrowly the 6 wickets in 6 balls will be the reason.

That is some result B!! Completely forgot you were playing them!

I made 320 odd and bowled thom for 45. Jackman 6-1-10-6!

We're great against teams from other leagues, just can't beat the ones in mine! Still, a 4th TIE of the season, fitness will be good and I will TIE again this Friday (not concerned if I lose, can't get promoted now anyway).

This doesnt warrant its own thread, so I'll post it here.

Friday I'm playing a side with an exceptional top order and a competent middle order. Their seam bowling gets a mediocre rating and 1 spinner gets superb. Now, I'm playing them away on a H&F pitch. I'm planning on bowling first, all bowlers very defensive and hoping to restrict them to under 300. Would this be a decent plan? I'm playing TIE anyway as I dont have a great chance of winning I feel.

Would it be a decent idea on bowling my openers straight through on attacking orders while leaving the rest on very defensive? Playing two spinners by the way, one is quality the other superb.

One extraordinary player. Plays for England I think his name is Cahill. There are a couple of other good batsman but he is the main one. That's why I was thinking of attacking the first 20 overs in the hope of removing him as he bats at number 1.

Seems a good idea, even if you can't get him out you stand a good chance of knocking out his partners.

Won on TIE. Posted nearly 350 batting first on a Hard and fast pitch.

Centuries for my No.2 & 3:
R B 4's 6's
Wise b. Cronje 145 135 13 1
Gower c. Cox b. Freeman 137 127 10 3

Got them out for 188 in 42 overs.

Next round looks toughish. Very similar team to me by the looks of it. May TIE it easy and leave it up to the BT gods. Don't want to waste a GFI as I'm going to need that in the league.

If I got through to the next round as I likely to get a home tie again? How is it decided who plays home or away? If not other than gate receipts what are the advantages of a cup run?

A little more xp per game?

Seems a good idea, even if you can't get him out you stand a good chance of knocking out his partners.
I've decided to do that. My two pacemen with the best bowling skill and lowest consistency will open on very attacking and will bowl straight through. The other 3, 2 of which are spinners, will be on very defensive.

Should I make my batsmen attacking or leave them as they normally are and see what happens?

On the subject of the cup, I've got a home tie against a level III team who have a stronger line-up than me. Looks like that'll be my last game so the £100K will do nicely.

Made 376-4, then bowled them out for 20.

Opposition in the next round have a remarkable top order.

Bucks - you'll be at home for the rest of your cup run. I will only get a home cup tie if I get as far as the semi-finals

In case you're interested our seedings are:

GBG - 21
Gambero - 219
General Stars - 261
Southend United - 283
Old Chelmsfordians - 284
SZCC - 293
Southend - 307

I think that's all of us left? Looking at the seedings there's a chance that Bucks or Toddy could play Cousin Weir in the next round if they get through!
