For the penalty I think the ref looked at his linesman who did nothing. ...

He did look to the linesman, Steve Rubery (a chance to claim daylight rubery ?). As opposed to doing nothing, he gave an immediate and firm signal for a goal kick. No indecision on his part.

I actually thought the referee was excellent throughout; one of the best this season.

How do you know there was nothing wrong with him? I thought he went down after a challenge and probably had little idea who, if anyone, was attacking.

Don't agree I'm afraid, got mugged off and knew we'd got a break on. Very cynical play acting imho.

Sorry, I should clarify. When I said did nothing, I meant he didn't give a penalty, or free kick, i.e. he did nothing in our favour.

I agree, I thought he was a very good referee.

How would you re-word the guidelines to referees (there are no rules as such) in respect of apparent head injuries?

How would you explain away a serious complication incurred by a player because he was denied urgent medical attention to a head injury?

O'Toole went down directly as a result of the challenge. He would not have known whether we were attacking or they were.

I do think the restart procedures could be modified though; possession by our goalkeeper is poor recompense for losing a promising attack at the other end.

Perhaps all head injuries that result in a stoppage in play should be checked out properly by the club doctor off the pitch, perhaps being off the pitch for 5/10 minutes would sort the genuine from the fakers ?

That's actually a very good idea. If you go down with a head injury you have an automatic 10 minutes off the pitch. If your injury is genuine then you'll probably need it. If it isn't then you risk putting your team at a disadvantage.

I would also say that any time during that 10 minutes you can be substituted if your team have any substitutes left. That way, if a player has a serious injury and obviously won't be able to continue then a substitution can be made. If you're faking it then you waste a substitution.

I'm surprised by everyone's reaction to Prosser's tackle. I thought it was a bad tackle and definite yellow but that's it, didn't anything other than that and I had a great view of it in the south upper.

Hallelujah. As I said before, we were attacking, he was desperate to win the ball back and he showed fight and passion. We all know there are players that put out malicious tackles but Prosser isn't a player with that type of nature. For any of us that have played football, we have all taken a yellow for the team. The fact that Prosser didn't just let the player run away from him or make a feeble attempt to get the ball but wholeheartedly made the effort to win the ball should be applaueded.
