Whatever you say Dave!

Anyway, Dagenham & Redbridge (11th place) are now within 3 points reach so things are definitely hotting up!

3 points reach of who ?

6 points and goal difference so at moment need 7 points to get above us even with game in hand. They have only won 2 in their last 8 themselves.

52 - 49 = 3 points plus goal difference.

you're looking at an old table; they won their game in hand !!

If all the clubs were to replicate their last 6-match form through to the end of the season, we would finish 13th, one place below Oxford. York would have raced into the playoffs and Dagenham would just miss out. Taking the form back a bit further, we'd fare even worse.

Given that these last six matches include just two defeats and include our last four matches when we have allegedly put a cross into the box every 2 mins and 15 seconds whilst averaging less than four shots on target a game (one of which should probably have been put down as a cross anyway), 7/2 doesn't look so bad (even if you could probably have got about 40 or 50/1 a while ago!).

Nice, I was looking at the BBC site as well!

So yes 3 points now, although the bottom half is still 5 points + goal difference (unless this table is wrong too!)

I can think of many other ways to get some excitement and none even involve smearing marmite over my bollocks and letting a lion lick it off...i'd do that over your daft bet and still get more excitement

I can see where the OP is coming from. The great thing about an ante-post bet is that it gives you interest throughout the season. E.g. I've backed Preston e/w in League One so I've got a team whose fortunes I can follow throughout the season and it makes watching the results come in that little bit more interesting.

Better to back winners of course, but the entertainment part of a bet is often worth considering.

With 27 points to play for and given your form, it's not out the question though is it? I've just go to keep believing that Southend will continue to crumble and hopefully I win the money & prestige associated with getting another ante-post up! Great news for me that the striker knock you lot back so hopefully the negativity & apathy continues!

Not impossible, if our form of last year is anything to go by.

Thing about form is it doesnt always tell the whole story. We are in bad form but we arent getting played off the park or getting spanked.

Same thing happened beginning of season and we just started winning.

If we were being played off the park Id think differently.

Good post Leo, it means you're always on the lookout for results which would normally mean nothing to you, while over the season you can build up affinities & hatreds towards previously benign teams. It's nothing personal of course and despite wishing for different outcomes compared to you guys, I'm still following Southend closely! Regardless, I'll wish you guys all the best next season if I don't take another punt against you.

Agreed with the principle on the betting side.

Sorry we're screwing the bet up at the moment. Still plenty of time for us to drop like a stone after Saturday's abysmal showing, mind, not that Preston are much cop. Dour, dour side.

I run a 'Team Picks' comp with 12 mates. Everyone picks a team from each division though nobody can have the same team so if two+ people pick one team then it's drawn out of a hat. It becomes a bit tactical as you want the best team but sometimes it's better to go down a bit rather than take a risk of going into a lottery with 5 people. So this year 9 people went for Arsenal and one guy got Man City unchallenged!! You nominate four teams in order so if you don't get your first choice you default to the next available one (with another draw if there's another duplicate pick). You then score points based on their performance during the season with cash for the top 4 and one for last place to keep the interest (with side prizes for the teams from each division that get the furthest in the cups). £40 each so a fair prize pot. A former user around these parts, Snowy, is currently bottom after ending up with Norwich, Bolton, Port Vale and Cheltenham.

It then gives you a bit of side interest in every division which makes Saturdays a bit more entertaining.

Would be happy to run something similar here next season if people are interested with some cash going to the Zone as well.

Exactly. I'm booing Torquay (on relegation at 15/2) big time this season, but it's nothing personal!

As the seasons go by, you sometimes end up liking teams just a little more if they do you a favour, or disliking them more if they cost you a few quid. Still not happy with Wolves for failing to finish top 3 in 2006/07!

Sounds good to me B..go for it next season mate.

Price been cut from 7/2 to 10/3. Marginal change but the weekend's results mean the gap has been closed by a point, with a larger chasing pack. Another game less though so time could be my biggest nemesis. Big game tonight!

Anyone else looking really really behind us, as were closer to 3rd bottom then we are to top...:nope::omg::nope:

No because we cant go down.

Midtable is beckoning but relegation is never going to happen so only look down there to see who is likely to drop. Didnt realise how close Portsmouth were to becoming non-league!! 5 away games out of their last 8 and their last game at home to Plymouth, surely there's some sort of rivalry between the two of them ?

I know it won't happen, but same happned to Steve Tilson's Lincoln. Their last win was against southend and they drew and lost every other game and went down. Think they went down with 53 points.

Where were they with 8 games to go in the table though?

They went down with 47 points.

Luckily we are well above relegation, but our form over the last 11 games has been relegation form, just as well it didnt start a few games earlier, that would have been interesting.
