Post-Match Thread and Ratings Boston 3-0 Southend United

It doesn't change much.

Hopper 2 in 839 minutes - A goal every 419 minutes (4.6 games)
Bonne 3 in 1716 minutes - A goal every 572 minutes (6.3 games)
Walker 3 in 1560 minutes - A goal every 520 minutes (5.7 games)
Kendall 2 in 838 minutes - A goal every 419 minutes (4.6 games)
So on minutes we have 4 so called strikers who can manage a goal between them around every 7 games
Which also means our strikers are capable of only producing on average a total of around 6.5 goals in a full season
Not sure we want to be in a position where ( apart of course from the great Gussy ) our regular designated top scorer notches less than 7 goals a season. That wont fire us to Promotion

Interesting that Colchesters better defender replacing Goodliffe was a loanee, and we of course have had Golding. And then there was Pepple upfront on loan

Hmmm........ Loanees, ! but we are not that keen on the idea apparently despite 2 out of 3 young ones being our best finds and being exactly that loanees ?

Be interested to see whether COSU do up the anti and current view on loanees during the summer search. Seems a better prospect than the knackered from the higher echelons

Those are a lot of words to say that you're content with us having the worst side we've ever had. We as fans are entitled to more.
I'm not convinced this is the worst side. We're in the lowest division - no question. But it was only a few years ago we were fielding a lad that was still at school up front - not because he was the next Kane, but because we didn't have anyone else. Was it the relegation side from L1?

Loans are the way you add a bit of pzazz in this division. If we had a Pepple of our own, a league team would pinch him very quickly. You just need to get lucky with loans that don't get recalled at Christmas like Pepple and Jed Ward at FGR - we should negotiate these clauses out if we can - which is probably easier said than done.

Boston United fan, I come in peace.
I thought last night you had some very good players ,that were technically very good, but you seem to play a lovely passing game that was not working. Mainly because of our work rate and discipline. You needed to change your style of play, going long sometimes or quickly getting the ball into the box, was what was needed.
Just a football fans point of view, good luck I hope you make the play off's, Great support you have.

Summed up our season, in one statement !

Thanks for the update, and have come to appreciate your input.
BUT, I've seen slow and I've seen Ben. He makes the other look quicksilver by comparison.
Maybe, it's that injury limiting him? And I've no issue with his positioning. It's when he's got the ball, or looks as if he might get the ball where the problems start.
It probably doesn't help he's playing alongside Gubbins, equally a liability.
Yes pace is his weak point, he didn’t look that slow early in the season for us, but maybe things have caught up with him, he is still only 25 so should be at the peak of his career really. Danny Cowley said some players come back from injury very quickly but Ben is one who needs a run of games to be at his best, perhaps if he is in and out of the team it is doing him no favours. The whole point of the loan was to give him a lot more game time, that now looks unlikely given his performances lately.

I feel Ralph's speed, aerial ability and ability to read the game makes that side pretty impenetrable when he's playing. I also think golding has really improved our set up with his calmness on the ball, size, skill and ability to bring it out. I think if both can get fit enough for Saturday it would make a huge difference . Both are also far more likely to knock in a goal than goodliffe and gubbins.
Collin is missed badly because he plays a sweeper role so well which I think creates a much higher back line and makes us a much more forward thinking team. Hayes is a good shotstopper but rarely seems to come for balls outside his 6yd box never mind his 18yd box. But Collin looks to be out until season end so we have Hayes and that's that.
I hope we go 343 v Oldham with Ralph golding Taylor.

We had 3 young lads in from Forest, one 19 year old Joel Thompson never quite worked out and has now moved to play for Finn Harps on a permanent deal. Donnelly who I mentioned previously, just 21 was superb and far too good for league two, the other one is 21 year old Jamie McDonnell who captained their B team from midfield. He plays defensive midfield and has been a revelation, he is also far too good for us and will no doubt be playing higher than league two next season. We have another promising loanee from MK Dons at present, also a central defender Jack Tucker (25) who looks composed on the ball and very decent I think he may well join us next season.

I think Poundland shopping, is going to be the order of the day. Maybe for a few seasons now. I think a few good signings have been made, but most have been bog average.
If we have yet another groundhog season next year, attendance will drop, maybe then it will be the food bank for our level of recruitment.
I think thats our main problem is our recruitment. Yes Maher isn't exactly the most adventurous attack minded manager but he hasn't exactly been backed with decent quality of players. We recently signed rejects from col u! COSU need to give Maher or whoever the manager is a better budget to attract right quality of players who going to improve us going forward. If we continue to sign players who other clubs don't want will just sit in this league for years to come. As a fanbase we do deserve better going forward given our crowds we continue to get at Roots Hall. Fans are doing there bit, time for COSU to do there's and give us a competitive team to challenge for promotion this summer transfer window coming up.
