Definitely boos for both Shaq (middle of the West) and Weston (back of the Family mainly). Morons in my opinion. Well done To both of these guys; not the best players to pull on a Southend shirt, but far from the worst and tryers both of them.

No booing in the South Upper. I actually called Weston coming on well before he did. Not his biggest fan but we needed his pace and Westons entrance kicked us into life. Others around me called for Hurst but he wasn't the type of player needed. Pace not trickery was the key yesterday.

I am glad he kept his head cool and score penalty, any wonder he choose to celebrate near the corner of East Stand rather than the west stand!

Phil. Hurst was the player needed and i think his performance showed that.
Weston has pace to burn but it was crying out for support for our front two.
Piggo especially was making space, but not geting any decent balls.
Tango saw this and did three good subs, but to me it was Hurst's skills that were needed.
Yes (and i am also not Weston's greatest fan) he has pace to burn and helped yesterday

if youve seen the photos of his celebration you might notice that the positioning of the man with the camera may have had a bearing on where he celebrated the goal.

Im not a fan either, but he does have his moments of brilliance and weirdly is more of a potential match winner than Hurst is.

You didn't have your glasses on did you? Hurst didn't really offer anything when he came on, was all about Weston. Can you remember anything of note that Hurst did?

Hurst immediately made a nuisance of himself and caused more problems in their defence than Pigott and Cassidy had all game. We needed the pace yesterday and that's why Weston and he were the right subs at the right time.

I've not been Shaq's biggest fan but he certainly doesn't deserve boos. Shaq was far better than Cassidy who was very poor, I think his only positive contribution was winning one corner in the second half. It was the right sub and Brown's only mistake was not bringing him on earlier. I'm not sure what those who booed wanted, would they have preferred the impotant Cassidy to stay on? Or perhaps they wanted to see 'he who can do no wrong' Payne (who's had little influence in home games) and go back to 1 up front, that's worked well before hasn't it! :nope:

Thats the nail on the head.

Payne is one of those players, a bit like Sawyer, in that he doesnt have to do a lot to impress people, yet he doesnt deliver a lot. Far too many quiet games where he contributes little or nothing, although he does have his moments.

He may have helped yesterday to help inject some life into the game, but I certainly wasnt surprised to see him not come on and Coulthirst for Cassidy made far more sense.

Its always been the same at RH, its as if certain people get off from mouthing out at someone behind the security of a crowd. I remember back in the seventies, a guy call Terry Johnson who was an out and out winger and ment to be hugging the touchline, used to never go within ten yards of the touchine because of the abuse he would get from individuals in the west stand.

Whilst TBV does a great job and Roots Hall wouldn't be the same without it it does unfortunately mean that if there is an idiot looking to boo the players his voice is going to be heard because the rest of the West stand can be very quiet at times.

That's strange I always liked Terry and don't remember him getting a lot of stick, in fact I do remember the 'Weve got Terry Terry Terry Terry Johnson on the wing on the wing' chant. But I was in the North Bank in them days.
I also remember him appearing quite a few years later as a scorer in one of Blythe Spartans FA cup giant killings.

Still the fundememtal issue of over inflated expectations since the freddy eastwood/tilly era...almost an air of entitlement From sections of the crowd...who then think it's ok to shout insults at the players that they are supposed to be 'supporting' I'm all for telling certain players your opinion...but how about Doing at the final whistle. Contrast that to our simply magnificent away support....which is noisy and passionate and United. ...yes United it's in the club's name and I just can't get my head round the negativity....I know it's not been a goal fest but as a community, which is how I view SUFC by the way we the supporters should do our bit and if that means stifling the odd insult or moans is that really too much to ask in our bid to get out of this league.

Ive said it before , i ll say it again, anyone who calls themselves a SUFC supporter and boos one of the players is not a supporter, yes you may get unhappy at the team and the way they are playing , but to single out one player in my mind is disgusting ,and whoever is doing that ,should take a long hard look at themselves and if they cant stop then please dont go .SUFC can do without your type.:nope:

I'm no psychiatrist/psychologist, nor can I remember the difference, but I should think those who are generally happier people might be less inclined on a match day to get off their faces and vent their anger towards players, match officials, opposition fans, those who are anti-smoke bombs etc....

I actually thought Weston did pretty well when he came on.
