Think it is indeed Nial Ranger.
Yes terrible attitude although Neil Warnock (who I think Phil knows pretty well) gave him a trial at Rotherham earlier this year and felt his attitude was excellent (maybe he's grown up). PB would certainly have reached out to Warnock for his view.
The guy would be a championship player at least if he had his head right and is still young.

Now anyone remember Ricky Otto- armed robbery was it? Stan Collymore was a nightmare before he came to us? We have many on here who would take a risk on a 12 year old from the Ryman league if he was young and hungry? So if it is Ranger then frankly I would rather take the risk who has the ability to play at the highest level, is still young and just like Ricky and Stan might find Southend an inexplicably calming and career repairing experience..

Probably now find it isn't Ranger..think it is though

By the way he has played in the Premiership and Championship. Has Phil ever worked with him before? We came up with Chris Brown as the striker concerned but maybe it was ranger and the worked with PB was a bit of misinformation or true but obscure.

I'm pretty sure it is nile ranger. The guy was going to be the next big thing and fell in with the wrong crowd and got dismissed from Newcastle. He could have had success at Blackpool too but had outside issues.

Tbf to the lad he said he has moved back home with his mum and has not drunk alcohol for two years.

Sometimes things fall into place. Could be a disaster could be a fantastic bit of business.

The kid is still just 24 years old.

Why not.

Praying to god it's not that murdering scum McCormick

From a football perspective he'd be a very good signing (and I'd take a remorseful idiot who thought he was good to drive after the equivalent of 2 pints over someone who has deliberately committed multiple crimes like Ranger) but I can't see why he'd leave Plymouth.

Captures it quite nicely. BTW see piece below before he went to Rotherham on trial end of last season

Nile Ranger seems likely, though he was heavily linked with Plymouth this week.

And of course, by copying and pasting from ShrimperZone and replies to Chris Phillips on Twitter, this appears...

Looking at his football career, he has never settled for long. His life outside football has been a series of controversies, including criminal activity. I would steer well clear, no matter how many good games he might produce.
Any contract needs to be in favour of Southend being able to release him at short notice for fear of long drawn out problems over his private life occurring again.
Would be great if he has seen the light, but more likely, given his past, clubs are giving him a wide berth and with Southend having to scrimp around to convince players to come here, Brown thinks he can work miracles.
I hope it is not Ranger but will wish him well if he has changed his lifestyle.

Yeah shocker.

That account is embarrassing, if its a Southend fan posting on here (and it may well be seeing as how many he posts about Southend) then he should hang his head in shame. First for making nonsense up, and second for getting so much so stupidly wrong (saying Leonard was 1million and Worrall was going to Leeds for 500k being two of my faves).

Over the weekend I pointed out on twitter just how often his "information" was corrrect, he didnt have much of an answer except saying he never said it was 100%.

Why do these accounts do it? Attention?

Anyway, back on topic, if it is indeed Nile Ranger and that does seem to be the most glaringly obvious choice then its a gamble for sure.

Ricky Otto isn't actually a great comparison. Seen a couple of bits on here recently about him leaving Orient because of his yardie activities, but that couldn't be further from the truth. He committed his crime(s) long before he joined us, and got rehabilitated in prison. The reason he joined you was because we were skint and you offered a six-figure fee.

Ranger has yet to show one iota that he is a changed man. Hope for his sake that he really has turned his life around.
