Breaking News Blues complete Spencer Signing

As Daggers have proved throughout the years, and Peterborough as well, there is talent in the lower leagues, and outside the football league.

Tottally agree, players signed from lower leagues have very little in wage expectations as well. I have a reliable source at daggers who tells me Benson essentially plays for peanuts but is one of their key players.

Something I've mentioned before.

Our success in League Two and One was based on hungry, young, local players looking to make a name for themselves. This changed when we got to the Championship. Expectations changed, and our transfer policy had. Rather than bringing in Hammell for example, imagine the uproar on here if we had signed a left back from Grays/Barnet/Daggers etc.

IMO the breaking up of the Div 1 winning side was a big mistake with RM maybe believing that Tilly was indeed the Messiah. The dismal failure of most of his new signings to cope with the Championship probably scared the life out of RM, which (among other things) has lead to the strangulation of the purse strings.

I thought at the time the poop contract offers to the likes of Bentley, gray etc showed a lack of loyalty on our part, thanks for promotion now do one, we need to free up space for Harrold, paynter, ricketts, foran etc etc, blimey when you look at the ccc season signings they were shocking(macca apart)

To be fair though, is was essentially the same side that was playing League Two football 18 months beforehand. Some of them, like Bentley and Eastwood, where playing even further down the footballing pryamid.

Some of them made the step up like Maher, Gower and Eastwood. Some I thought would make the step up easily didn't like Guttridge and some weren't given the chance rightly or wrongly in the form of Gray and Bentley.

We had to add Championship experience to the squad, as well as improve in departments like Hammell coming in to replace Wilson. The majority of the signings looked right for us on paper with Peter Clarke (Blackpool Captain), Stevie Hammell (top flight experience in Scotland, and turned Southampton down), Michael Ricketts (England international with top flight experience) etc etc.

Unfortunately, some of the new signings didn't work. Some of the old players couldn't cut the mustard and we had to result to playing players out of position and bringing in players, like Harrold who was signed for the long term not to come straight in, then had the fire the goals to keep us up.

Makes me laugh EVERYTIME

Im not normally ont to be a doom merchant but I reckon this signing is to replace barney, big gamble IMO, to let someone who is going to finish on 20+ goals go for someone you hope will 'prove himself', I know we skint but this in turn means we cant afford to slip down the table (relegation scrap) as many of the 'new seasos' we have accumilated over the last few years will not bother and we could be back to the 1500 hardcore season ticket holders. In the long run keeping barney would benefit the club greatly unless a minimum of 500k for barney is secured.........

Scott, if you ever get on here to read this................a warm welcome to the Blues. I wouldn't want you to think that there is any weight of expectation on your shoulders.
If you manage a hat-trick in your first game, half of us on here will hail you as the new Eastwood................and expect you to repeat the feat in the following matches. Whilst the other half will complain that you didn't score from your other two chances you had. On the other hand, if you don't manage a hat-trick in the first game, you can probably expect the same treatment as the other stikers present and recent past...............................................................bar Barnard. ;)

Nice to see a permanent signing for the first team :). Hope he is given a great chance and that he will become a great player (no pressure mate ;))

A cheap, worth a punt signing, that'll do no harm. I just hope he's not the only forward we bring in this month though.
