I don't think we are getting Billy Sharp, I heard about we are getting an local lads (and essex born) who play for a League 1 side, but don't know who.

That will be Harrold then

Or Neil Harris

Or Paul Hayes if the actual definition was "played in League 1 last season"

We need a striker who has to accapt a role of being a 3rd choice & fight for a place, they would do it at Sunderland or WBA, but Southend is different.

Fair dinkum, Milkey... although Trundle didn't just spell-bind in last season's Swansea encounter; he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile during our 4-2 victory over Swansea in 2004.  Despite Freddy's hattrick and the fact that Southend was obviously the better side that day, Trundle's talents clearly shone through.

Billy Big-time and flash bugger he may be, but he's still clearly a very special player, IMHO.

Matt

More classics from the rumours website..

Newcastle United transfer rumours:
Newcastle United to buy defoe for around 7 million and darren bent could be on his way to st james park for around 12 million because hes exited of playing european football. Newcastle will also sign bridge for 3.5 million and they could make an enquiry for Freddy Eastwood who is a prolofic goalscorer and Southend could sell him for around 1 million.

Why?
I for one believe along with the sublime coaching & man-management/motivation ability of Tilly & Brush, one of the major reasons for our success over the past 2.5 years is purely down to the dressing room spirit.

For somebody to come in a disrupt that is a real gamble IMHO.  Trundle, potential great player that he might be [and as a lot of people know on here, it's taken a lot for me to change my opinion of him], might just come in with a "I'm in the Championship now & therefore am better than you lot" attitude and cause dressing room rifts.  He's obviously also got tickets on himself after his image-rights deal, probably not helped by Soccer AM setting up camp in his rear-end.  Love him to prove me wrong and be one of Roots Hall's best loved players, totally agree MtS, a front 3 of Eastwood, Trundle & Ricketts would be potent and make the Championship sit up & take notice of us.

Also, if our average wage is as low as people think it is & OK they will have got one or maybe two years promotion increase on that basic wage, presumably, don't you think an outsider coming in on maybe double what you are on a week will result in some sort of disharmony?

Still can't see it happening though (or Billy Sharp either come to that) but hey, lets look on the bright side, when really have Tilly,Brush & Uncle Ron let us down badly in the transfer market (even Badbuy's critics are now mostly eating their words)?
I think Michael Ricketts is a far bigger gamble in that respect. But we still signed him.

By all accounts, Lee Trundle is a very popular player in the Swansea dressing room.

Well I remember it. He had acres of space that day, and we seemed nervous of tackling him. Compare this to the Swansea away game, where we got close to him and although he had a good game, he was nowhere near as effective as he was at the Hall.

His 'grand a goal' bonus? Wouldn't be too happy with that if I was Freddy.
Yeah. Because Ricketts walked away from the last year of his £14k a week Leeds contract for the love of the game....

Fair point Benedict

Trundle is a quality player and It would make my season if we had him. He had a few spells out and still bagged 21 goals.

He did tail off the last third of the season though, only scoring 1 in 15 games.

I dont think he is worth paying 7k per week even if he would come here, which I dont think would happen.

Lets face it Trundle is a class act and would be a huge signing for us, and to be honest out of our league.

If any Swansea player is coming then it looks as if it will be Robinson...

Class act. Would be chuffed with that signing.

Much as people seem keen to re-write history the fact is that Trundle was unplayable at Roots Hall last year, just as he was 12 months previous when his brilliance outshone even Eastwood's debut hat-trick. If our defenders backed off him it was because they were fully-aware that they had little or no chance of getting the ball off of him in that form.

Iwan Roberts said on Sky before Swansea's game with Huddersfield last season that Trundle's performance in the game that they won against us last season was the greatest individual performance he'd seen from a striker in ten years. And this is a guy who has played Premiership and International football.
