Bill Paynter leaving?

What injury did he have exactly.
He's been out for months now and being someone valued at £250,000 I find it difficult to believe that he hasn't been able to either get fit enough or show the ability that warranted that kind of outlay.
Didn't he break his leg?

Did he  That would explain the long absence and lack of fitness perhaps but I don't remember it being reported as such.

When was the last time Paynter was on the bench?

I'm pretty sure he's been out for longer than two months......

According to soccerbase he started the home game against Cardiff back in the end of September and IIRC actually played quite well (had a goal disallowed and hit the bar) but then got injured and was out for a month.

He made his comeback in the 3-1 defeat at home to Ipswich as sub and then started the Leeds league cup game but was stretchered off injured first half.

I think he's had two reserve team outings at most since recovering from injury.

Far from it, he tore his hamstring in the carling cup game at Leeds. Was down the training ground last week and he was banging them in. Its just when he gets out on the pitch, every slates him and he loses his confidence!

I'm geting confused now. I thought he moved down here to be with his GF? Isn't it Peter Taylor's daughter?

I have to say, having watched him play in the reserves recently, that he is definitely not the answer to our problems.

hasn't it already been stated several times on here that that was nothing but rumour?

Although, most of you seem to have forgotten, he was deemed fit enough to be on the bench for the home FA Cup tie against Barnsley, when I believe Harrold was injured. So I can only assume that he is in fact fit, but behind Harrold & Hooper in the pecking order for the bench.

Do we need a £250k 5th striker?

Bad management then. If he's that good in training, get him out on the pitch & let his football do the talking. Especially at this time when we need goals.

It happens regularly where players who have a slow start with fans can become icons! Or reverse. Look at Graeme Jones, every one said to me how wonderful he was after his 1st few games, but he soon managed to turn even his staunchest supporters round! :D

He may be fit, but he's lacking match practice as I said above!

The reserves' game today being cancelled won't do him many favours.

Incidentally, does Tilly see Hooper as a forward? He seems to be used predominantly as a wide-right player.

IIRC I believe Paynter was also touted as someone who could play out wide right & in fact I think he was moved into midfield 2nd half in the last reserve game.

I can't see that any of Harrold, Hooper or Paynter can be described as match fit given the lack of reserve outings & Harrold's been injured since Billy came back so how come he leapfrogs him back onto the bench?

I spoke to a couple of the older youth team players who train with the first team sometimes and when i asked them who was the poorest player in training they all said Painter!
