I don't agree with that I'm afraid. If you look at it logically, Leicester have come down and will no doubt be a genuine title contender with an excellent manager on board, and no doubt, decent backing from Mandaric.

One of Donny ro Leeds will still be in this league next season, and whichever one of those it it, will without question be one of the favourites for the title.

Add to that, Peterbrough and MK Dons will be arriving with some serious cash behind them.

Throw all of that together, with the possibility of us losing a couple of decent players, and I think next season will be every bit as tough as this year, if not, tougher.

Of the teams coming down Leicester should have the best chance of bouncing back at the first attempt. However this will depend on them having managerial continuity. Doncaster or Leeds are a bound to be a threat, and IMO Brighton under Mickey Adams should be there or there abouts.

Just because Franchise FC & Peterborough are cash rich this doesn't equate to success, as ever it's how the cash is used.

We will find out fairly soon which players will be released, and those that will be offered new contracts. Then it's down to the good old transfer merry go round. I guess that Tilly has a shopping list, and then this will come down to finances and whether RM will back him with the necessary Nelsons.

Exactly Harry, Leicester and Palace have to be two of the richer sides in the Championship this last season, and although Palace missed out on the play offs, it didn't exactly do Leicester a lot of good.

Out of interest, we were going through the potential new league yesterday and working out who we thought would be the favourites, and these are mine and the lad's top 6:

His: Leicester; Southend; Leeds or Donny; Carlisle; Brighton; Hartlepool

Mine: Leeds or Donny; Leicester; Us; Scunny; Oldham; MK Dons.

What are you lot on? I admit that the drubbing by Doncaster may have a little hangover effect next season, but surely less than relegation the year before.

As for struggling next season, what rubbish. This season, we needed to rebuild after loosing Freddy, Prior, and Maher (sort of), and in the 2nd half of the season only Swansea picked up more points than us. Sadly we were too poor in the first half and had too much ground to make up.

It was always going to be a struggle and we have really finished about where we should do after seriously over achieving the year before last.

With a new centre back, right midfielder and forward (and left back if Mulgrew doesn't sign) we are more than capable of giving this division a real good shot next season and maybe even winning it.

Roll on August.

Right...

I haven't posted since the game, I wasn't there but I did see it on TV, but I actually feel that these comments about the players would not be being aired had we had a decent ref on Friday.
It wasn't a penalty (that one has probably been done to death on other threads) and the 2nd goal was a foul on Barratt. True , Clarke and Flavs got in each others way but Barratt had got goal side of Price and was seeing the ball accross him and out when he was pushed (ok maybe a nudge ) in the back and the ball then hit him. That was my impression at the time and numerous reolays seem to confirm it to me. At 2-0 we had to open up and that allowed Coppinger the space to have the day of his life. (also not long before the third goal there was an obvious corner given as a goal kick when price headed it out)
I still don't think we would have won, Donny were the better team, but the scoreline reflected our continuation to push on and try and get back in it , A couple of players had off days, Moussa is not a winger, and Barnard and Walker were well shepherded again. But its not all Doom and Gloom.
Personally I think Leeds will win at Wembley and (with my head rulling my heart on this one) I think I prefer it that way as I don't want Leeds in this division next year as they will romp it, I also feel that we will finish above Donny next year (because SOD will be poached by a bigger club).

I agree with Brushy. I think the players just didnt turn up and yes it is disappointing in respective to the game but there is no cause for alarm.

I think Leciester will do very well next year. I also think Doony or Leeds will be up there. Im not so sure on Carlise as they will lose their keeper i think who is brillaint. I think teams like Oldham, Huddersfield and Brighton will makes pushes for the play offs. Im not to sure on how Scunny and Col U will get on. Both are small clubs. I think MK Dons will have a good season but Posh are the team for concern. They have a lot of money to spend and do have a very good young team. Lewis is Eng U21 keeper and they have Morgon from Wales and players like Boyd and Maclean

Firstly I'll say i wasn't there on friday, i didn't even see it on tv as I was at one of my best mate's wedding (he's a blues fan too).

Obviously losing 5-1 is never good, it's depressing for everyone but one bad defeat doesn't make a bad season or a bad team.

From everything I've seen and heard since our fans did us proud, were they right to party? absolutely!

When you're losing by five goals it'll be fairly obvious to the team they've played badly, they don't need the fans to boo or condemn them, the fans showed their love and support of the team.

And what difference does it make if it was on national tv? It's only humiliating if you let it be, if you care what other people think.

I'm Southend and Proud and always will be irrespective of which division we're in or whether we're on tv winning or losing.

There are always improvements to be made to a team, whether you're Man Utd, Southend or Wrexham. The reason we go to watch football is because we never know what's going to happen next, be it a 5-1 defeat or a 16 game unbeaten run. If it was predicatable and everything went to form and could worked out by a formula we wouldn't go because it would be boring.

I'm already looking forward to next season, and the silly season of summer transfer rumours.

Some fans might not have clubs to support next year - see Gretna - be grateful for what you've got, in case you lose it.

Blimey R_C, doesn't this unadulterated adulation from the Wigster* worry you just a teeny bit?

*Wigster - DEF: One who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

That is the definiton of an accountant, ACU.
We get enough ridicule without you giving :censored: the same definition:'(
