Best Supported Essex Club

Might have some attendance competition from Carlisle next season. That’s an away day I’ve never done.

Ok, so you are saying you accept that there were not 8,408 people attending the game yesterday. Maybe common knowledge to you, but I am pretty sure most people would think that was the number of spectators at the game.
You take attendance to mean “money taken”. Most people don’t.
To be fair I thought most people knew that too that it's based on sales. Not sure if it's still the case but Bradford done really cheap season tickets and attendances numbers were over £10k every week but were getting a couple of thousand less most weeks.

I've just seen this on Facebook from the 'Proper Football' site:
Boxing Day 2024 Top Non-League Crowds
8408 Southend United V Ebbsfleet
5834 Bury FC V Ramsbottom
5412 Aldershot Town V Woking
4925 Hereford FC V Kidderminster
4355 Yeovil Town V Eastleigh
4181 Macclesfield FC V Leek Town
All the rest listed were below 4,000.

Only three matches in FL Div. 2 bettered us:
Bradford City V Port Vale18,330 (are their ST's still ridiculously cheap?)
Carlisle United V Morecombe 9,225
MK Dons V Notts County 9,249

...Colchester United V Gillingham an embarrassing 5,934
You also have to factor in away support.

Think the largest away support to visit us this season was daggers with 700 odd..

Move up into the efl and away crowds increase significantly.

Some teams bring like 50 to us.

I bet Colchester have been visited by easily a few hundred more on average and Orient in league 1 will most certainly have had their numbers boosted by some sizeable away supports.

And the northern clubs in our league all take 1000+ to each other as they’re so close…Oldham, Halifax, Rochdale, York, Alty which boosts their crowds and we just don’t get that.

Average home attendance for SUFC this year is 7180 and we are top of the National League.
This would place us 17th in League 1 and 8th in League 2 for home attendances. We also have the highest gate this season in the National League at 8495.
Also higher Division clubs are likely to bring bigger support so our figures are likely to be higher.

To a large extent the size of the town or city defines where they play in the Football pyramid. Of course there are other factors but is there anywhere larger than Southend in non league football

this is even more vexing when you look at Burnley, Sunderland and Blackburn

At the ground boxing day, during the minutes applause I was astonished to see (on the scoreboard) how many shrimpers had died during 2024.

It's a wonder we have got so many fans left, as the list seemed to go on and on

York, Barnet, Dagenham, Sutton, Gateshead, Rochdale and Oldham all have larger populations than Southend. There’s others in the NLS and NLN also.
