Best soundtrack.. to a film

As others have said Lock Stock and Kevin & Perry are great, for a more indy music vibe I like the soundtracks to Garden State and The Last Kiss. i also really like the Gladiator soundtrack.

Hans Zimmer has penned a few decent soundtracks (notable scores include Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Thin Red Line, The Prince of Egypt ,the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy; he also wrote the theme for "Going for Gold") and very much from the same camp are Klaus Badelt (The Time Machine, Poseidon) and Harald Kloser (The Day After Tomorrow, AVP).

For something a little less crunching, I like Harry Gregson-Williams (Kingdom of Heaven, Chronicles of Narnia) and James Newton-Howard (The Village, King Kong, Lady in the Water).

But for the master of all soundtracks, I nominate John Barry. Aside from composing the score for no less than twelve Bond films, he was also responsible for the stirring music of Zulu, The Lion in Winter, Midnight Cowboy and, quite possibly the most stunning film soundtrack of all, Dances with Wolves. If you're a fan of his work then check out his album 'The Beyondness of Things' released in 1999. Although not specifically a soundtrack album, every track conjures up vivid images; it could almost be a soundtrack to your own life.

David Arnold is doing bloody well to follow in the footsteps of a genius like Barry; his score for Casino Royale is truly stunning and a definite nod towards his mentor.

Dances with Wolves...great choice Mike and one of my favourite films ever...I have probably seen it 10 times and never tire of it ...:)

The Wall - Pink Floyd, even if Geldoff is a sh!t actor & this selection is a bit of a cheat. Also cheating (a bit) Breaking Glass - Hazel O'Connor.

The Commitments pushes the above very very close too.

Paul Giovanni & Magnet "The Wicker Man"

John Cameron & Frog "Psychomania"

John Cameron "Kes"

Marc Wilkinson "Blood on Satan's Claw"

Ennio Morricone "Danger: Diabolik", "Citta Violenta", "Il Bouno, il Brutto, il Cattivo", "Comandamenti Per un Gangster"... (I could go on all night)

Goblin "Suspiria"

Reservoir Dogs is very good, some great choices from Tarantino as always and the Steve Wright links are good for a giggle. Really like the This Is England OST too, some top atmopsheric background pieces coupled with some really tasty ska + reggae.

Has got to be Donnie Darko! The songs alone are brilliant but they just work so well with the film that it makes it even better

I could really get into this thread, but BLUEBLOOD Jnr is whinging like a girl cos i've not fed him since breakfast and i've got to try to find the kitchen and cook the little toe-rag something
