Mulgrew was after Hammell, am sure he had some great performances for us. Coker is a quality player, I'm delighted he's receiving some well deserved plaudits.

All I do no, its a pleasure to have decent left back, a position that we have struggled to fill for some time now.

Only time I've witnessed a left back control a game like Coker did was a certain Gareth Bale when we was away at southampton other than that Coker's performance last night tops the rest

Coker is OUR best left back since Chris Powell.

Not at the same level as Steve Hammell.

Didn't go to Newport but I am told Coker was woeful against a L2 winger. Hammell was decent against championship wingers. He would walk this division.

In terms of attacking performance that was one of the best I have seen for many a year, certainly since Mulgrew / Hammell and possibly back to Powell. It was an absolute pleasure to watch particularly after all the dross we have seen at LB in recent years (Malone, Gilbert, Friend...the list goes on)

Also for us to even be comparing Coker to those 3 is no mean feat, particularly in view that all 3 went on to be selected for their countries (not sure if Hammell did start though).

What always surprises me is how effective Coker is with his 'weaker' right foot, he is very capable with both. His attacking abilities, desire, passion, effort and 1:1 defensive abilities are all very good, just feel he is not the greatest aerially.

He would be my POTY if we was nominating today, I am pleasantly surprised what a cracking singing he has been considering how underwhelmed I felt at the time we first offered him a trial (Ex Scum and all that).

Last night was a masterclass from a top wide player left alone a fullback....but despite his attacking drag backs, shots, step overs and crosses, his biggest contribution was that cracking tackle barely 8 yards out just when there forward was ready to shoot (think it was 2-0 at the time).

**** the lot of them there is only one left back.....

DAMON SEARLE!!!

THE END... Close thread

Chris Powell, Steve Hammell and Charlie Mulgrew each put in numerous top performances at a higher level and all went on to bigger things. Don't see how we can make comparisons just because one had a superb game in the fourth tier.
