Best eleven of the decade (on current form!!)

I'm not doing this on current form, as the notion of that is ridiculous.

It's not really. We've all picked our best team of the decade/best team under Tilson/best team ever a dozen times. He's just asking which of the players we've had over the last few years would you like to re-sign now and how would they fit into the team.

I think it's a nice twist.

Exactly... I was just basing it on the fantasy idea that we could re-sign anyone right now from the last 10 years and put them straight in the side.

Ok so it is a bit ridiculous but its better than finding some real work to do in an almost deserted office.....!

I like this, good twist to a standard question

surely Stanislas has to be in here. If a player is good enough to be playing regularly /semi regularly in the premiership surely he would be in our best squad ?

I had forgotten about him actually. He would have to be in the squad at least.

Mildenhall
Kelly Cort Dervite Harding
Bentley Moussa Bailey Gower
Eastwood Barnard

Subs
Hunt, Mulgrew, Grant, Kightly, Stanislas, McDonald

Manager: Tilson

Not currently playing so other roles required
Coach drivers: Griemink and Bramble
Mascot: Jay Smith

That team would challenge the defensive records set by the 1980-81 team and would set the platform for another title winning season. I reckon they'd be a decent shout for the play-offs in the championship the following season as well.

depending on whetehr your glass is half full, or hald empty you can look at most of these team selections in two ways

Sad-- The thread is on current form, and barney is the only player that consistently gets into the line up- that is a sad indictment of our current team
Good- what a magnificent job Tilson has done getting in loan signings who were clearly better than what we had. Lets hope it continues this in Jan

Again didnt really get the current form thing as a few of mine have retired.

GK - Federici - Only saw a bit but a class act

RB - Kelly - Again a loanee but sheer class
LB - Mulgrew - Not the best defender but amazing delivery and skill
CB - Dervitte - My 4th loaneee from 4 but the best defender I have seen for us
CB - Cort - Smelly Cort I think was imense. Pace, power and goals

LW - Gower - Great winger sadly forced out the club by Fasto.
RW - JCR - I didnt think he had an end product but he could run with it
CM - Maher - great passer and great leader
CM - Bailey - Ginger **** but vant fault him as a player

AT - Eastwood - Best striker ever
AT - Barnard - Great striker and poacher

SUBS
Darryl , Prior , Macca, Stanislaus, HRK , Dudfield, Leon Clarke.

GK - Feds' - Was only with us briefly but the tips he passed on are still evident in Mildenhall and Joyce's kicking style. Top class goalkeeper, although is having a bit of a mare at Reading at the moment.

RB - Stephen Kelly - Another loanee, this time from Spurs. Fantastic player in an average side. Really stood out and has gone on to play top flight football at the likes of Spurs, Stoke, Fulham and Birmingham.

CB - Dorian Dervite - Stand out performer in the second half of last season. He made Peter Clarke actually look like a £300K centre half. Superb in the air, and on the deck. Would love to see him return.

CB - Leon Cort - There was a few others that could have had this slot with Prior, Sodje and Barrett both having decent shouts. A hat-trick of headers against Boston will always live long in the memory. Another who has gone on to play top flight football with Stoke.

LB - Dan Harding - Whilst Hammell and Mulgrew took the plaudits for their attacking play, Harding was a brilliant defensive full back that could attack, not the other way round. Would have loved to have signed him in the summer, and I'm lead to believe he very nearly did sign.

RM - Junior Stanislas - Could have gone for Kightly or Campbell-Ryce in this position, but Junior takes it for me. Incredible skilled footballer, that actually had an end product. Scored some cruicial goals for us in his loan spell. Don't let one bad performance at Stockport cloud your judgement with this guy.

CM - Kevin Maher - A Southend United legend. Captained us during our most successful period. Would slot in front of the back four when required, and has the range of passing that our current midfield, including Moussa, can only dream off.

CM - Nicky Bailey - Grade A **** but whilst he was with us was a superb footballer, and one of the best midfielders I've seen grace the Roots Hall turf. His time with us will always be looked back on badly because of the way he left unfortunately.

LM - Mark Gower - God how we have missed him. Would normally be around 10 goals a season for us, and chip in with many assists. A fantastic footballer for us, and even left in the right way (Take note Bailey). Would be welcomed back with open arms.

CF - Freddy Eastwood - What a player he was for us. Delighted he is starting to find form for Coventry as well now, because he deserves nothing but good things for his spell with us. I'm sure he will return to us one day, hopefully its sooner rather than later.

CF - Lee Barnard - I've been a fan since day one. Has won over his doubters and is the second highest league goalscorer under Tilson, behind Eastwood. Isn't just limited to goal poachers efforts, can also chip in with goals outside the box just like Bristol Rovers this season.

Subs:

Mildenhall, Prior, Mulgrew, Robson-Kanu, Guttridge, Laurent and Goater.

Flahavan, Kelly, Roget, Barrett, Wilson, Bentley, Maher, Guttridge, Gower, Eastwood, Barnard.

Lack of options at left back (despite many loanees, I'm going for consistency!!) and right midfield means I'm opting for players who played an important part in our back to back promotions.
Went for Roget over Clarke & Cort because I thought he was better at defending and as for midfield it's a case of "put your medals on the table" and so Gutts gets in, Bailey doesn't...Macca doesn't even get close!!

Sorry if this has been done already but I havent seen it anywhere...

I don't often post on here but I'm seriously bored at work so thought I would put this out there... If you could bring back any player that played for us (loan or perm) from the decade and put them straight into the starting 11, what would your team be? I would go for something like this:

GK: FEDERICI
LB: HARDING
RB: FRANCIS
CB: CLARKE
CB: DERVITTE
LM: GOWER
CM: BAILEY
CM: MOUSSA
RM: KIGHTLY
CF: EASTWOOD
CF: BARNARD

SUBS:

HOOPER
ROBSON-KANU
MCCORMACK
MULGREW
SAWYER
BARRETT
MILDENHALL

Not bad eh? I would fancy a playoff push with this little lot. Notice that all of these played under Tilson. I can't remember anyone decent enough from the guff of 2000-2003 that would get into this side.

Thoughts?

Yep! that'll do me for January..........not completely unrealistic. Oooooops..
............am I on the wrong thread? Anyway.........Sawyer and Hooper as
subs....................which one would throw a wobbly and b****r off first?

Just my personal choice...maybe not the technically best, but my favourite XI. Sorry if boring, got carried away with the fun ha ha

GK - Flavs - What we acheived with him was immense, some match winning performances and how great was it when the fans sang to him "Daryll, Do you hate Col Ewe". His response was awesome every time even at Layer Road

RB - Juppy - Another sentimental choice, what a goal...it allowed us to enjoy the last few minutes knowing we was there. Although he sweat buckets in the warm ups, he was a true 100 percenter.

LB - Barratt - Cheating a little here ha ha, Mr Southend, loves the club, loves the fans and a True Blue. Scored some vital goals along the way aswell. Always gives everything he has.

CB - Prior - Glad he came back, his class helped during the promotion success. A real class act and a leader amongst the squad.

CB - Cort - A very decent player both defensiveley and as an attacking threat (remember that hat-trick?). A class player in a poor side, imagine him a few years later.

RM - Stanislas - Class act, shame we only had him for such a short time but the Premiership came calling - and he did'nt dissapoint. His two Cup goals earnt us the Chelsea games and his performance at Stamford Bridge was immense

CM - Bailey - Hate how he left but what a player, scored goals, tackled like a demon, showed passion galore and was an instant fans favourite.

CM- Maher - (C) So underated amongst the Roots Hall crowd, infact no player has divided opinions so much. Personally, we miss his passing, calmness and set pieces. Most Successfull skipper aswell I believe.

LW - Gower - Its true, "you dont know what you got till its gone" How we miss his class, his goals and just his all-round game. Some great times from him. Pre-Tilly, he was our one shining light in the squad.

AT - Eastwood - Started amazingly and carried that on. Goals, Goals and Goals. Great player who crafted so much from his own skill. A legend for what he acheived. Free-Kick against Rooney and Co put Blues on the worldwide map for 24 hours

AT - Goater - Legs had gone but had that X-factor about him that spurred on the players, staff and most importantly the Fans. What a way to bow out and great singing on the Mic. A true Legend and a true Gent as a person aswell. "Feed the Goat". Signed his autobiography with the message "One In Essex" for me.
