Best Doner Kebab?

Mad Cyril

The Fresh Prince of Belfairs⭐⭐🦐
I watched a program last night that had a feature on how doner kebabs are made.

I now can't stop thinking about them so the question is who does the best Doners in the area?

I can't remember the last decent one I had in the area. I used to live Rusholme in Manchester and the doners were fantastic, wrapped in freshly cooked naans with yoghurt sauce, onion salad etc.

I saw that, and couldnt quite believe it

The doners at Samsons in Edinburgh are very good. As are the doners you used to get at the old Olympic Stadium in Munich. Southend wise, dunno.

Now where I live, the only takeaway is a chip van that comes every Thursday.

In Surbiton, Charcoal Grill is quality. But dont go to the one next to Surbiton Station... Its rubbish.

Also Eden Kebabs and Samirs in Kingston are Rotten. Unfortunatly the only places to go to get food after a hard night out...

I can't recall the name of them , but there is a new place in Southend who deliver Kebabs, Their Pizza's are good too

There was a restaraunt called the Istanbul on London Road, Westcliff did fantastic shish, doners were ok, but only really taste good after about 10 pints.

The place is still there but under a new name.

Now I was brought up on these tpypes of food, and some nights you can find me roaming around in my little car, to find a kebab shop that I havent tried. But I have to give a special mention to the little Kebab shop on Southchurch Road (the white horse end) by the Chinease Restaurant Mr Wongs, the guy who works there actually looks of indian origin, but the donar really is fantastic and I would recommend you try. KC's in York Road actually went through a stint of making there own 'Stems of Doner' which were first class and only to be had with a bit of Onion and a squert of lemon. You always think of your first as your favourite, and on my birthday my mum took me for a takeaway kebab at Stripes, it used to be by the Palace Theatre, hhhm I can remember the taste of that baby now....... who would have thought what that one keba would have done to me!!

Yep fantastic call that man, there shishs were f%&king amazing, and it was a real family run restaurant, with a tiny takeaway section. I was going to include in my tribute, but have only had a good shish from there

american express? they do good half-pounder burgers as well

Combinations, High Street Cheltenham. Very nice and very generous with their portions too.

In Essex though, has to be a toss up between Essex Kebabs, Pitsea and the one over Ashlyns roundabout in Basildon.

Worst one i've been to is the Istanbul in Cheltenham. Guarenteed to be very ill the next day.

Also, I have often wondered what the story is when it comes to getting your own Burger/Doner van.

Do you have to build your own or is there a company somewhere with a showroom full of brand spanking new mobile snack units available to test drive?

Chicken Express!! I have to agree, they're pretty good.

Suprised no-one's mentioned the Ali Baba in Southend. I was told that place is really good and where some of my mates go after a heavy night out.

It's horrible if you ask me.

Kebab 2000 by the Bell isn't that bad.

Kebab 2000 are living in the past.

I was visiting an ex of mine in Sheffield she went out to pick up some takeaway pizzas for dinner one night.

She asked me what toppings I wanted and I replied "anything but seafood".

When she returned I found to my amazement that my pizza topping was doner meat!

Monsoons, Oxford Rd, Manchester. Best donar I have ever tasted. Queues on Friday & Saturday night are a joke but worth the wait.

Many of my ties have been ruined after staying out after work on a Friday then getting a donar before getting the last train home!
