Bernard Manning!

Ldnfatso you have just shown how ignorant you are on matters of race, black people do not like to be called coloured and to do so they feel that you are condescending them, they want to be called black as we are called white. So get you views on race out of the 70s as well.

And for the record BM did nothing for me as a comedian, but he is from a certain age and he had his point of view and was not prepared to change it and as mentioned above he did not go around telling people to kill blacks so he had no reason to be arrested. Similar a lot of people of that age still have those views on both sides of the fence. Remember just because you are black does not mean you cannot be racist. I know many blacks who I consider racist as they do not like Asians or mixed relationships or even say that most whites they cannot stand but I am alright as I am different. This sounds so much like views expressed by white populace during the 70s. Again these views are common amongst the older black community than the younger one which I hope is getting to the point where colour does not come into their thinking. It just takes time and education to get over these obstacles before we become equal in all eyes of the society.

Wooo there Bob, Don't even dare going there and telling me my views are stuck in the 70's coz of one debateable word; that is a blo0dy insult.:guns: I think you will find that my ethnic views are certainly more pc and modern than most. I have no problem with Coloured's, Black's, Whites, or Tangomen, they are all entitled to be treated the same. I in fact have worked for Coloured's/Black's (whatever you want to call them) them for 3 1/2 years without problem.

I do however agree with what you say in your second paragraph.

What an absolute load of rubbish saying the above! I happened to find BM's humour very funny in the same way as i crack up at chubby brown, unlike a lot of the useless liberal loving idiots who like to say the right thing at the right time to sound all pc, i happen to feel that if something is funny then laugh at it and to hell what people think, as long as you dont physically bully someone then whats wrong??
Oh and before all the liberals throw their handbags at me, i dated a black girl and was engaged to a half indian girl so i am far from rascist.

And breathe :)

Well, if you feel that his bigotry views and comedy is funny then you are no better than he!

Bloody shameful!

I feel like jumping into this debate! Personally i think there is strong distinction between finding something funny and agreeing with it... where ldnfatso said

... I just can't agree with that. I don't think laughing at a risque joke (racist, sexist whatever) doesn't make you a racist/sexist/homophobe... whatever. I'm not using it as an excuse for me finding certain things funny but IMO Bernard Manning/Roy Chubby Brown et al are all 1-trick ponys, amusing but quite a niche market of comedy.

Whether or not BM is a racist, I'm not really sure but I don't think cracking a joke makes you racist unless it really does reflect your views about intolerence and prejudice of other races... and what I would say is that intolerence of any type (racist, religious or just posts on SZ) is a massive issue in our society and calling people racist because they find BM funny is intolerent of peoples right to say and behave in a way that is doing no harm, IMO

I am deffinatly no better than he is then in that case, so if you've got a problme with me then id be quite happy to hear it
go on muggy, lets hear what you wanna say about me............................

I have said my piece and certainly am not going to get into a personal slanging match with other posters on here on the subject.

This is my last post on this thread.

At the end of the day for someone who finds this kind of comedy so repulsive and rascist and bigoted, i find it laughable that you spend last night watching a programme about BM, does your remote not work? surely there was a liberal party broadcast on channel 1,987 you could have watched to protect your delicate ears from the horrible fat mans views be they true or false.

I would suggest he is better for watching the programme rather than making comment on something he hadn't seen.

Or perhaps he watched it because he wanted to confirm his beliefs on the man or with the chance that he might learn more about him.

If one does challenge their own ideas and beliefs one will never develop

but that wasn't what i was implying, if i dont like something then i certainly wont go and watch it on tv,at the end of the day i admire his views as this is a discussions board, and everyones view is valid in their own right.

classic manning quote from last night......

people are going to want to stamp all over my grave when I die?

I hope so.........

im getting buried at sea!!

While not a fan of Bernard (from the stand up clips he was never that great (IMHO) even in his heyday ). It was a touching portrait of a dying man and very sad in parts . His views we're his own and based more from a lack of wating to spread his awareness . Which actually caught him out a few times (when he was saying who would have heard of Mrs Merton and boasting he'd played at the MGM to a man who had supported Frank Sinarta ).

Its is opinion weather you find someone funny, however it seems true comdey can go beyound insults and pettymindness.

Wooo there Bob, Don't even dare going there and telling me my views are stuck in the 70's coz of one debateable word;

Ok maybe I was a little harsh on you, but the word is not debatable and here is a little pose that one my Girlfriend's father had up on the wall in their house. I asked about it and he said that to be called coloured is not great and that it has it's roots deep in apartheid. i.e. No Coloureds allowed.

As a black man sat down he noticed a white man behind, the white man said "coloured people arent allowed in here !!

The black man replied ....
When I was born I was black
When i grew up i was black
When im sick I am black
When i am in the sun I am black
when I am cold I am black
When I die I am black

But you sir .....
When you were born you were pink
When you grew up you are white
when you are sick you are green
When you stay in the sun you are red
when you are cold you turn blue
when you die you are grey
And yet you have the nerve to call me coloured !!!
