'Bentley out to prove he's still best in the league'

Very valid points! Dan isn't the finished prospect, and scouts will have seen these errors. However, given his age and the maturity he shows, he is one of the most exciting young 'keepers in the country.

Yes,he should continue to improve, there is plenty of scope-dealing with crosses and kicked clearances,in particular. After missing a harmless corner vPeterborough (Timlin headed off the line) he chose to punch rather than catch anything at Chesterfield.

Dan's let less goals in than every other keeper in this division, except four and one of them is the Gillingham keeper who came rushing out on Saturday to be lobbed by SM for our goal.

I'd say he is doing more than enough to impress and any "mistakes" of late are more than made up for by some quality saves, as well.

Exactly what Jam Man and others said.

He is a tad off form lately, it's completely understandable that he wont make the same amount of clean sheets as he did last season (20 I think?) and to be fair, he has stepped up a league & still puts in quality performances game after game.

However conceding 16 goals in 15 games so far, in my opinion he would'nt merit the same amount of attention from scouts etc as he did at the end of last seasons fantastic run to get us promotion. Hence I think his value may have dropped a little, and adding to that, what with his contract finishing soon, I would imagine if a move was on the cards, I think it would be a higher weekly wage as apose to a transfer fee.

As per my previous post, Im a big fan of Dan, he has been awesome for us and I believe he will continue to be so. He has saved us countless points already this season & is a true asset to the club.

Bentley is not a share price that fluctuates on a daily basis. If you think his price went down at Gillingham then it must have gone up at Coventry and Millwall.

Scouts don't look at things like goal/clean sheet stats. They are looking at a much bigger picture. Dan will not be signed on the basis of a couple of great saves, nor will his value fall if a ref gives a dubious penalty or a player scores from forty yards.

Here's something.

I was just minding my own business when I remembered I'd recorded some football last night, so I settled back to enjoy the world class entertainment on offer when I spotted an International Goalkeeper drop the ball at the feet of a grateful striker and five minutes later another International Goalkeeper at the other end charging madly out of his area and aiming an air shot at a clearance resulting in one of his own players being sent off and costing his team the game in the last minute!

The best goal keeper I have seen at Roots Hall was Federici

watching MOTD highlights yesterday all I could think was that he looked orinary at best

I never suggested Bentley is a share price that fluctuates on a daily basis. Im well aware that football scouts look at the medium term (thats long term in our real life ) & they generally have a P.D.R. on at least a bi-weekly or monthly basis.
But I must say, if you think a goal keeper isnt judged on clean sheets & a striker isn't judged on goals, then why isn't Messi playing in goal for borewood wood and Neuer playing up front for Braintree Town.

Ok, jokes aside.

I was merely stating that letting in 18 goals in 16 games does not merit him the same attention that he got last season when we won promotion and he kept 20+ clean sheets. Which surely can be a good thing in terms of keeping him at the club (every cloud, silver lining etc).

This season of course, other goalkeepers are performing currently better than him, But he is performing at a higher level than he has never played against before. form is excatly what it is... just form, & im confident Bentley will return back to his best.

I will say again, I think it's beneficial for the club, to hold onto to him as long as possible, especially as he is a local boy and truly wears his heart on his sleeve (like Adam) & is a true asset to the club.
Mind you, if he did unfortunately leave in the new year, I think we are so fortunate to have young Ted in reserves, Most clubs in our league must be envious that we have 2 quality goalkeepers on our books (and home grown and that!)
