Wouldn't have thought it will make too much difference. Will just mean we can spend more on wages but we still have to convince the better players to come here. Novak turned us down for Charlton and Knight-Percival turned us down for Bradford. We can probably afford to pay both of those the same as what they're on at their respective clubs, but getting them to come here is the hard bit. I don't see us being fancied this season given the players we've lost and not yet replaced.

This highlights my point about taking a gamble again on Hunt & Moussa if we can structure their contracts sensibly. It's not easy to get the players that could be a bit special for us at the moment or in the near future. Compound that with our best players always likely to move on if they attract interest from a bigger club futher up the food chain.

All the best to him, been nothing but a model pro during his time with us, even last season when we knew he'd be leaving. I'm sure he'll go on to have a great career.

That will count less than the club we are.

Compare us to Charlton and even Bradford and we are a smaller club, thats where the players make their decisions.

Incidently this is the club whose chairman is making signings based on a mathmatical formula.

The maths make sense as well, if you look at the number of high-quality chances we conceded compared to goals conceded either we have had a very good keeper this season or opposition strikers have magically lost their shooting boots when playing us.

Shame to lose him but he has always given 100% when in a blues shirt. I wish him the best of luck in his future as it will no doubt mean more money for us.

Good Luck Dan, hope you don't end up being wasted on the bench.

Apart from any roll ons we might get from him i'm not interested what he does anymore,he ain't Southend, thats all that matters, sorry but i'm being honest.

Don't agree. I want him and Payne to do well. Its not just that we will end up with more money but its a great advert for the future young stars who might sign for us. Certainly has been proved that success at academy's breeds success.

Totally agree, just thank god he's gone now and we can move on. Back/support Ted Smith, arguably a better goal keeper anyway or potentially.

Of course I will support/back Teddy Smith but no way is he a better keeper than Daniel at the moment. He may well develop but after seeing him at the end of last season he will now need even more careful handling otherwise we may ruin the bloke in our rush for him to take over from Dan as the next 1st team keeper. He's not that yet!

What im saying is, that he has achieved more already than DB, England caps etc. Speaking to Terry Mason he says that Ted Smith is a better keeper at this age than DB was. So moving forward I think he will be a real asset....until we have to sell him. Would rather Smith in goal than this lad from Hibs.

And Demetriou turned down Walsall for us...

I absolutely agree with you on Smith in terms of development. I just think he is not ready for 1st team football yet. The guy from Hibs may not be the right 'now' choice, but neither is Smith. Try again Mr Brown.

Good luck Dan and thanks for all you've done for us from your nervy debut against Torquay when you unexpectedly had to come on for Morris to the brilliant saves in the Play off final. Think Brentford will be a good move and if you work on your distribution and kicking who knows how far you can go.

Good luck Dan, he gave everything for Southend and acted professionally throughout.

Do we know the fee/sell on clause yet? Or is it just hearsay on Twitter? The sell on clause is crucial, look at the ridiculous prices Premier League clubs are bidding at the moment...we could potentially get £1m+ in 2/3 years time.

Hate to be negative, but location played a huge part in that. Had he received offers from Charlton/Milwall etc. then he may well have gone there instead. I think Phil has a really tough job as far as recruitment this season goes, as we're just not a particularly attractive club at this level. The better players can and will sign for the better clubs and we'll be left battling the other similar clubs for the 'best of the rest'. Until we get a new stadium, we'll continue to struggle to get the Novak's over the line.

The heading for this thread is incomplete.......should be " ...joins Brentford U-21 s/reserves".
