Oh also don't see many ethnics in the crowd or services there!!! funny that!!! all take!!!

Also watching it

R.I.P All those that fought and died for this country be it under King or Queen

Its too emotional stuff for me.

Such a sacrifice to make though, its quite difficult to comprehend sometimes when we now have it so easy by comparison to the World Wars.

Its hard enough not to get all emotional when the place falls silent especially on 11/11 at 11:00....that really is surreal but such a small token of respect to those who gave so much to people they never knew.

Just realised that as the II's don't kick off until 2pm tomorrow I'll be able to watch the Rememberance Day stuff on tv in the morning.

Result.

Scott, many, many Commonwealth soldiers gave their lives as well. My ex's grandfather for example who fought for the British against the Japanese and was only one of 8 who returned from his squadron.

From Wiki:

By the advent of World War I, Sikhs in the British Indian Army totaled over 100,000; i.e. 20% of the British Indian Army. In the 100 years to 1945, 14 Victoria Crosses were awarded to the Sikhs, a per capita record given the size of the Sikh Regiments.
"In the last two world wars 83,005 turban wearing Sikh soldiers were killed and 109,045 were wounded. They all died or were wounded for the freedom of Britain and the world, and during shell fire, with no other protection but the turban, the symbol of their faith."

The Sikh Regiment in the Second World War

Across the world Sikhs are commemorated in Commonwealth cemeteries.

In 2002, the names of all Sikh VC and George Cross winners were commemorated by being inscribed on the pavilion monument of the Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill next to Buckingham palace, London. Lieutenant Colonel Chanan Singh Dhillon (retd), Punjabi Indian World War II hero & Veteran, and president of the ex-services league (Punjab & Chandigarh) was instrumental in campaigning for the memorials building.

Well maybe that's the BBC's coverage, but you've got that just white British folks to thank for your freedom from Nazi Germany and that's something that generally gets ignored/glossed over/forgotten.

And you may bang on about me being a "lefty" but my grandfather's brother was killed in WWI, my uncle went insane due to post traumatic stress in WW2 (and got f**k all support from the government). My mate Ian is severely f**ked up due to his time in Iraq (and he was in the territorials).

I've given my money and bought my poppy, and I mourn those poor b*stards of every nation who have been killed due to the stupidity of those ****s that rule us and who's own children are far from the front lines while the working classes are butchered.

calm down! as a typical lefty you take the slightest thing out of context!

Today is not about picking colour, religion, country, etc....its about a mark of respect for those who have given their lives so that we and others can enjoy the freedom we do today.

"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" - Winston Churchill

Its a time for us all to be grateful for the sacrifice so many people have made. I am sure we all understand that.

I don't say this very often, if at all, but well done to the BBC for it's coverage of the Remembrance Sunday service and parade.

Whether you agree with the politics involved regarding our forces serving overseas or not, both past and present, it's time to put those to one side and realise that today is a time to give thanks to ALL those in ALL conflicts that have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that we have, and will continue to have, the freedoms we so casually take for granted in our everyday lives.

The BBC should put today's service onto DVD and every school child and teenager should be made to sit and watch it tomorrow morning at school.

Now THAT would be a much more sensible thing for them to watch than the Al Gore thing that's going to be sent out.

Too many kids today really don't appreciate what the poppy signifies at this time of year.
