End of Over 28: 79-5, runrate=2.82
Ewart 9-1-23-1
Palmer* 1 (1 balls)

At last something has happened.

YB

End of Over 29: 122-1, runrate=4.21
Mason 8-0-40-0
Canning* 34 (64 balls)
Keigher 76 (87 balls)

Last Wicket: Griffith c. Bunn b. Fredericks 8 (FOW: 16/1)

B, are you sure the other guy TIE'd?

Dusty pitch, cloudy and humid. It's a bowlers paradise. His batting isn't that great, if we can get amongst them early we may have a slim chance:

End of Over 31: 70-9, runrate=2.26
Roeder 6-2-14-1
Mushtaq* 0 (7 balls)
Sutherland 0 (4 balls)

Last Wicket: Horrigan b. Roeder 2 (FOW: 70/9)

Annoyingly my last two won't get out so I'm not going to see any of my bowling as I'll be in the pub!

End of Over 33: 71-9, runrate=2.15
Roeder 7-3-14-1
Sutherland* 0 (7 balls)
Mushtaq 1 (16 balls)

Last Wicket: Horrigan b. Roeder 2 (FOW: 70/9)

Finally! At leat Mushie signed off with something, though it was kind of inevitable he would go next ball:

End of Over 34: 78-10, runrate=2.29
Malik 6-1-22-2
Sutherland* 1 (9 balls)

33.5 W Malik to Mushtaq
Wild swing by Mushtaq, a haymaker. Pity he forgot to hit the ball. Mccarthy takes off the bails and stumps him!

33.4 6 Malik to Mushtaq
Maybe I shouldn't have bowled a bouncer at Mushtaq during the last Commentators vs Professionals match. He's just smacked a thunderbolt straight at the commentary box. I'm going to have to insist on bulletproof glass from now on...

I quick sneak down the commentary list sees this:

28.4 W Irving to Cunningham
Oh dear! That’s a schoolboy error by Cunningham, playing away from his body at a wide one.

28.3 6 Irving to Cunningham
Tries the yorker but instead serves up a knee-high full toss which is dispatched over the ropes on the off side. Dreadful bowling.

6's are bad for your health!

Chipping away slowly

End of Over 40: 117-7, runrate=2.93
Kemp 10-2-18-2
Palmer* 24 (40 balls)
Appleby 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Tyson b. Kemp 1 (FOW: 117/7)

Kemp, the forgotten all rounder, shows what he can do against rubbish opposition.

YB

End of Over 40: 178-2, runrate=4.45
Huddlestone 10-1-44-0
Keigher* 107 (110 balls)
Thomas 3 (8 balls)

Last Wicket: Canning c. Chanderpaul b. Hodges 54 (FOW: 175/2)

End of Over 50: 171-10, runrate=3.42
Turner 9-0-50-2
Xingwana* 29 (23 balls)

Should chase that without to many problems, although they probably got 30 more than they should have.

How about this for a collapse in Mrs BB's game (she's batting)

End of Over 50: 265-10, runrate=5.30
Rendall 9-1-43-3
Judd* 51 (43 balls)

49.3 W Rendall to Karel
Flicked to square leg, good low catch diving forward by Fish.
49.2 W Rendall to Bradley
Edged and gone. He's walked before the umpire has raised his finger. That was a beauty.
49.1 W Rendall to Higgs
The ball keeps low and shoots into middle stump, Higgs glares at the pitch and he trudges back to the pavilion.

End of Over 49: 265-7, runrate=5.41
Fish 10-1-54-3
Higgs* 1 (1 balls)
Judd 51 (43 balls)

Last Wicket: Mohammed c. Ireland b. Fish 0 (FOW: 264/7)

48.6 1 Fish to Higgs
A slower ball and Higgs steers it into the gap for an easy run.
48.5 W Fish to Mohammed
Ireland's caught him. Great fielding.
48.4 W Fish to Jacobs
Big nick and an easy catch for Briers.
48.3 W Fish to Higgs
Fish, Briers and Michael appeal till their faces go purple! Slowly but surely, the finger goes up.
48.2 1 Fish to Judd
Big bottom edge but they'll scamper a quick single.
48.1 1 Fish to Higgs
Worked around the legs towards deep mid wicket.

End of Over 48: 262-4, runrate=5.46

6 wickets for 1 run in 7 balls

YB

End of Over 50: 261-6, runrate=5.22
Fredericks 10-1-45-3
Pembridge* 5 (3 balls)
Thomas 51 (37 balls)

Last Wicket: Ramsden c. Bunn b. Fredericks 2 (FOW: 256/6)

Has Battrick just crashed for anyone else.

My oppo were the 2nd placed team from last year, with me 3rd. So with my fitness up to invigorated I decided to GFI.
On their Hard & fast pitch they chose to bat first and were in their last over with about 236 runs. That's not bad considering their top 2 batsman are around the quality mark. Quite happy with that.

Hmm. Canning getting out probably helped me. Despite supposedly being a destructive batsman, he isn't, probably because he is only proficient.

Thomas, the next man in, has Pietersen/FLintoff/Botham style bar emptying abilities with the bat.

I'm pretty certain that there are sub-levels of aggressiveness. Thomas hits loads of boundaries. His primary is similar to those of Griffiths, who is also destructive, but his scoring rate is always better than Griffiths'.

Trouble is, he had to finish off against Fredericks and Singh, bowlers with a combined BTR of 200,000+

The key to this game is running through their batting order. If I can dismiss Chanderpaul cheaply the game is mine. San is their only other decent batsman. I think he normally plays them 3 and 4. My game plan is for Daniels to rip through their openers with the new ball and have a go at Chanderpaul early.

Re MRs BB's game - was it Trent Bridge in 1981 Beefy took 5 wickets for 1 run when the Aussies needed only 31 more to win?

I miss BBC no longer having the rights. Rainy days were great when they use to show stuff like that.

Edgbaston, but it wasn't in 7 balls :p

I was at a Christening that day, it was a baking hot Sunday afternoon. I would have been 13, but can still remember it well.

YB - you have an early wicket

End of Over 2: 11-1, runrate=5.50, reqrunrate=5.23 (261-6)
Ramsden 1-0-9-1
Chanderpaul* 3 (2 balls)
Ndah 6 (9 balls)

Last Wicket: Flowers c. Thomas b. Ramsden 0 (FOW: 2/1)

Wahey! Now to get Chanderpaul out :-(

BB, I think you'll find it is in about 7 balls when you are watching it on the highlights:p :D

I got myself the DVD for Headingley '81 but haven't been able to find one for the rest of that series. Headingley was great, but it is all the better if you can watch it in context and see quite how Beefy terrified them into throwing away winning position after winning position during that Ashes.

I'm sure I used to have a video of Botham's Ashes, not sure if you can still get it.

Actually you still can

http://play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/632141/Botham_Ashes_The_Miracle_Of_Headingley_1981/Product.html

I know I have one called "On Top Down Under", sounds like a dodgy porno, but is actually the one-day games after we won the Ashes in 86-87. It starts with Botham smashing the Aussies all round the park, and also includes Lamby taking 18 off of 5 balls from Bruce Reid to win a game in Sydney. Marvellous :D

Hmm, that's the one I've got at home.

I might have to trawl through the extras a bit more carefully as I've only ever seen the 3rd test bit of it!

YB - game over ??

End of Over 13: 63-3, runrate=4.85, reqrunrate=5.38 (261-6)
Daniels 7-1-18-2
Singh* 13 (11 balls)
San 26 (34 balls)

Last Wicket: Chanderpaul c. Thomas b. Daniels 15 (FOW: 42/3)

Comfortable win for me by the looks of it.

End of Over 13: 114-0, runrate=8.77, reqrunrate=1.57 (171-10)
Mokoena 7-0-58-0
John* 57 (42 balls)
Raziuddin 55 (38 balls)

Get in there!!!!!

Hopefully I can rattle through the rest of them. Not quite sure how good Singh is with the bat, his 150,000BTR is mainly bowling, but I better get him and San out just to make sure.
