Battrick for Beginners

Not going to disagree with BB there. Looks spot on.

Despite not investing in the YA its still worth pulling a 17 year old to see what you get.

As Steve H says ... your gunna get spanked!

You need at least a season for things to start going semi-right.

I think I must have been fairly fortunate as I probably had a slightly better starting squad than this, but it's not terrible.

Just a quick plug. If you want a WK, I've got one up for sale (has been listed about 3 times for £0 and had no offers). Not a brilliant player but he's certainly better than you've got so you're welcome to put in a bid for him.

Jlloyd Atkinson (924902)
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, sublime
A defensive player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Crabbys Catchers
Nationality: England
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 2,781
Wages: £485 p/w

Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: mediocre
Batting: mediocre Concentration: woeful
Bowling: feeble Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Would probably be half decent for you if you train him up. You can probably get someone better if you want to pay a bit but he's yours for £1K (or whatever the minimum bid is) if you want him.

and if you want just a pure 18y/o wicket keeper...

Elvis Olivier (910041)
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, proficient batting form, competent bowling form, sublime
A steady player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: N-Trance shire
Nationality: England
Age: 18 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 1,916
Wages: £556 p/w

Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: competent
Batting: worthless Concentration: worthless
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Thanks guys. I just wish I had had all of this advice when I started and then maybe I wouldn't have made all the really stupid mistakes that I did

We were all new then. I've so far signed up about 15 players from another forum and spend most of my time answering newbie questions at the moment! One guy didn't get a single competent primary skill in his entire squad. Almost tempted to tell him to sign up again!

The subject of Match orders was touched upon in the match thread. but I was wondering what everyone else did?

I set all my front line batsman so that btwn their attitude and the orders I give them they end up being attacking.

ie a Destructive/attacking player I leave as normal. A steady/cautious player I make Attacking. Seems to work well for me.

My bowlers I had left to Normal. i have a mix of attacking/cautious bowlers anyway so I left them to it. Although I have recently been playing my 3rd spinner as defensive and it's been working like a dream Drys up the runs really well. Think he has to have high Cons for this to work which he does - Superb.

Quote[/b] (The Flying Scotsman @ Sep. 28 2006,14:59)]All good advice lads. I think I'll get the old line up set up shortly, and then worry about training. Any reccomendations on how to get the best sort of training? And should I invest a lot in the youth acadamey?
My YP has just gone the market if you are interested, although he might turn out a bit expensive.

He's Respectable Batting, Mediocre Stamina and Conc, pretty much Worthless for anything else. He's listed for 0 as I haven't got a clue what he'll go for.

TFS - I've listed a 17yo mediocre bowler for 0.

Would be a cheap option for a trainee. He's got no secondaries, so he'll only go for £1,000.
