Battrick for Beginners

Is there any website around which offers advice to those just starting the game i.e. hottrick for hattrick?

Anyone care to share any words of wisdom for those starting up?

Try jumpers for wickets

Afraid I haven't got the url. There might be a link for it on the battrick link section. If not you'll have to hunt around for it on google.

Jumpers for Wickets

I agree with HKB, it's the best place.

Only advice I can give is don't bother trying to train up anyone below Mediocre, as some people have

Also look on the Newbie Sledging boards, loads of questions and answers on there, from the most basic to some quite in depth ones. Plus you can always post a question on here and you'll get a decent reply.

Email me your squadlist and I'll take a look for you.

A mate of mine has just started and got an 18yo proficient/competent batsman with competent WK and a 19yo proficient/mediocre bowler with respectable stamina. Lucky bugger!

Someone on the Newbie Sledging Board got a Prof Bat / Prof Bowl (admittedly he was 25)

I started off with a strong wicketkeeper, a proficient batsman, a respectable batsman but they had no secondaries and were too old to train. Don't think I had anything else above mediocre (apart from 2 competent reserve keepers!)

I'd suggest starting out by training everyone who is 18 or under with a primary of mediocre or above and anyone aged 19 who is competent or above.

Your bowlers pick themselves (Solanki and Keogh opening, then Funk first change then the spinners O'Shea and Ingelby). Batsmen Solanki and Agyemang are your best pair, I'd open with them if it is a batting wicket, if it is green or cracked or something which is likely to assist the seamers I'd put them in the middle order. Other batsmen would be Duberry, Conroy, Mahoney, Qaba. You lack a decent keeper, I'd probably pick Kruger over Botham as Botham has an incredibly low battrick rating. Look to pick up a 17yo mediocre batsman with feeble keeping as your first signing.

Team in Batting Order

Philip Solanki
Phil Agyemang
Eugene Conroy
Nigel Qaba
Greg Duberry
Bryan Kruger
Wes Ingleby
Dean Keogh
Jeff Botham (W/K)
Eric Funk
Anthony Oshea

Bowlers in Order

1 Philip Solanki
2 Dean Keogh
3 Wes Ingleby
4 Anthony Oshea
5 Eric Funk

Set your bowling orders to sets of 5, or if you use the default swap Ingleby and O'Shea.

Then go and buy 3 17yo trainees, all with at least Mediocre Stamina, 1 with at least Mediocre Batting, 1 with at least Mediocre Bowling and if you can, 1 with at least Mediocre Batting and Feeble W/K. That should cost you about 100k, then get them training rather rapidly. When you've got those, try and sell all of those that aren't in your first team as they will not get any better and you will just be wasting wages on them when they are never going to play.

What does everyone else think ??

You haven't got a bad 1st team, just no-one in reserve and nobody trainable.

Sounds about right. I'd agree it was a good squad, only lacking in trainees and a keeper. You should be able to beat Kev easily. Definitely train O'Shea. Oh and sack people like Fleck and Broad.

Not sure how the finances pan out for new starters now. £100k seems to be a lot to spend. You probably can't afford to go straight away for 10 nets, so I'd suggest biding your time until cheap trainees come up. Anyone who invests maximum ITS into their youth system should be pulling 17yo mediocre-mediocre batsman or bowlers with medicore stamina. I'd expect there to be a lot of them on the market around week 4 or 5 if you are patient.

100k was a guestimate. As HKB says the market should be awash again next week with Mediocre/Mediocre/Mediocre 17yos and you shouldn't need to pay more than about 10-15k for one of those

All good advice lads. I think I'll get the old line up set up shortly, and then worry about training. Any reccomendations on how to get the best sort of training? And should I invest a lot in the youth acadamey?

Personally, I wouldn't invest in the YA as new starter. For what it costs you, you can pick up the equiavalents for next to nothing on the TM, and that means you can put your money to better use. Give it a couple of weeks, and if you have won a couple of games and your home attendances are increasing, then get your stadium upgraded to the correct proportions, there's a link that tells you what ratio of seats you should have. Training wise I would employ 5 or 6 SP's and then something like 3 stamina coaches, 2 batting, 2 bowling and 2 fielding and a W/K. If you train a Mediocre Primary on one net for 3 1/2 seasons he will end up at Superb which is pretty good.

All of the above is my own opinion, I am quite prepared to be shot down in flames by HKB, MrB or others

Agreed, the YA is only worth investing in if you are able to make your 80,000 per week in interest.
