Funny, swore you said this.

The 2 statement don't contradict, I never rated him but then I don't rate Weston but dont ignore the good he does sometimes, I watch the games with 2 views & don't live on the past, your only as good as your last game

No you arent, you are as good as you were over the whole period.

Thierry Henry was rubbish at the end of his career with Arsenal, but that doesnt wipe out his contribution over his time there.

Corr scored a goal every 3 games, however you want to dress it up thats a great return for a striker, especially one expected to play as a lone striker for a large part of his time here.

If Corr was only as good as his last game then an assist and a harshly disallowed goal that wasnt his fault wouldnt be a bad level to be judged on anyway.

If the above is true Paul Smith should be in goal tomorrow then, had a better career than Bentley so far

Literally makes no sense.

We are talking about judging Corr's contribution to us over the last 5 years. To do that you have to look at the stats for the whole period, not just his last game.

If you want to try to judge Paul Smith over Bentley to play for us tomorrow then you of course judge on current form. If you want to Judge there contribution to the club based on their total appearances for us then Bentley wins again, because he has kept more clean sheets etc.

But we arent discussing Corrs current form are we, just on what he did for us in those 180 appearances, which was score a goal every 3 games.

Funny to read the squabbling over Barry Corr.
He scored a decent number of goals for us. Though, still i struggle to rate him as anything but one hell of a trier. Maybe he proves that if you work hard enough.....?
The play-off against Stevenage at Roots Hall has been mentioned to his detriment. Funny, it was the time I was more impressed with Barry Corr than ever before. It is fair to say he had a complete nightmare in front of goal..and in such a hugely important match. However, there he was, miss after miss, howler after howler - and yet he never went missing. He never hid. The worse it got for him? The more he tried, the more he gave.
Barry Corr is very much a marmite player. But a player that nobody can deny gave his all.

True, there are those who rate Barry Corr, and there are those who are wrong.

:winking:

This for me too. I'll never have a bad word said about Corr after the man went through 17 months of what must have been pure hell but all good things come to an end and I think it was best for both parties to go our separate ways this summer.

It didn't have to be an "either or" situation did it?

We could have had Corr, Mooney and Hunt in the squad for tomorrow's game - that would have been good I think. Bringing in Pigott as well would have given us plenty of interesting options.

Having read that interview can't see how anyone can criticise him. Preferred to play up front with a partner, nothing new there, and wanted a deal sorted after the club had dragged it out until the end of the season, and accepted a much better offer when another club came in while we were in no rush to compete with them.

I'll criticise him. He wanted his contract sorted out but the manager and CEO had gone on holiday? Well, how terrible! I'm sure they didn't expect to have to go through the play offs when they booked their holidays! Did a couple of weeks really matter that much? Corr was pretty quick out of the starting blocks with his move, who knows what they would have offered if he had waited?

When a player leaves Southend on a free for more money from a rival club, and he is still loved by a good proportion of fans, he must have been pretty ****ing special.

Personally i think that is a bit unfair on Corr.

Who is to say that if he had waited then Cambridge may have gone for another player?

Who is to say that he possibly wouldn't have been first choice for PB and that consequently our offer may have been lower than what he was already on - who knows?

I certainly don't know and I am pretty sure that Corr didn't so he had to make his decision based on the facts in front of him - a concrete offer at more money (and I know that for fact) or the possibility of a decent offer from us.

Very simply, Cambridge had identified a top target and were primed and ready and we weren't. If you read the attached, it looks like their Manager didn't go on holiday and that he pulled out all the stops to sign Corr.

I am certainly not criticizing SK or PB as they like anyone else have earned the right to take a holiday, but I think to criticize Corr is equally unfair.

He was a very good player for us and I hope he will be a success at Cambridge and I will certainly be pleased to see him near the top of the League 2 scorers chart.

Notwithstanding that, I hope that our new forwards swiftly banish any regret that we may have since Corr's departure.

Tampa Blue, you are entitled to your opinion of course. Let's just say we agree to disagree on this. I bear Corr no malice and wish him well with his move.

Barry Corr was a grafter and he did score goals for us. But no way on earth was he anything like "pretty ****ing special". If that is pretty ****ing special?? We have had many players who must have been very, very ****ing special.

He should have had his contract renewed ages before then anyway so I don't blame Corr in the slightest. If my contract at work was running out that quickly with a young family to look after I'd be pretty disturbed by the lack of action being taken by my employers.

I think you're missing the point. Players like Andy Rammell and Dave Regis put in a good shift and scored a few goals, but they did not connect with the fans the way Barry did. That's what makes him '****ing special'.
