If all Barrett does is give some advice and experience to Thompson and Prosser for the future it will be worth him being here for the rest of the season.

Did we really need to sign him? Looks like our defence is decent without him sadly

Think back to when PB switched JBW with Coker half way through the first half v Plymouth to become our new CB. Now hands up all of those who said that's what's been needed all season, no need to waste our time with the likes of AB.

Think it's a little early to judge, how about we assess his impact at the end of the season rather than after 20 minutes as a substitute in a 2-0 home win!

I don't think its any coincidence that we've seen a vast improvement in Thompson and Williams since Barrett's arrival. His influence off the pitch will be huge to a very young defence.

Adrian Clarke said on BBC Essex last night the moment he came on he was very verbal organising the back four and rallying the troops trying to get us to up our game as we took our foot of the gas at half time

Barrett is the leader this squad was missing, as for his playing qualities then I think the two matches against us and the AFC Wimbledon tie against Liverpool prove he is still more than capable at this level.

Good signing is Barrett. Also, means we hopefully won't have to see Bolger play again this season

This! Was certainly vocal when he came on! Competition for places can only be a good thing.

Ad came on and immediately started talking to Williams and thommo...guiding the youngsters. plus the crowd noticeably lifted when he came on.

Absolutely need him, his experience can not be underestimated. Even despite the good run of late, if fit i would rather he was on the bench. JBW and Thompson have played well over the past few weeks, but, at times we still look a little disorganized especially set pieces. This is where Barrett's experience would be vital.

Before the game he was working with the youngsters (and White). Grtter them doing clearance headers etc. You knew he was in conrol. They will benefit enormously from Adam.

Adam's influence both on and off the pitch will as suggested be a great asset. He is also a great favourite with the fans. Its been some time since I have heard such a roar from the East stand to welcome a sub warming up as we had when he appeared from the bench, just before our first goal. Despite what some say on here, cheers and chants are evident in main stand at least in the East Blacks and Greens. When he came on last night, they along with the South Upper even broke into song. "One Adam Barrett there's only one Adam Barrett". :Worthy:

When the game went flat in the second half him coming on lifted the crowd if nothing else.

As a defender I cant see any negatives with him being here.

Agreed, it's early. I had some fears that the signing could be more style than substance, but there were certainly promising signs last night - not least the obvious and palpable lift in the crowd and our threat at set pieces.

Barrett was nowhere near any of the set pieces [not his fault] in fact the only danger was that they may score on the break.

Two good deliveries first half, one a set piece, result 2 goals. Second half corners in particular were poor, including my pet hate, not clearing the first defender.

I know some folk think AB to be the new set piece messiah but at least give him a 2 fishes and a loaf if he is expected to feed the 5,000 [shrimpers]

Indeed so, not his fault. I'm talking about the danger and the threat. That we never took advantage of it is a side issue, and one we need to put right. In the brief period he was on, he added to our firepower in the box when we had the opportunity to fire in a dead ball, losing his marker time and time again. We will find his head at some stage - I'm sure of it.
