Get him in on the coaching staff, a Southend legend a Southend fan. He understands the club and knows what it means to the fans and to support the club. Future manager maybe!!!

Well, Brown hasn't signed his deal.

IF we fail to secure promotion, I can see him not being offered a new deal as opposed to sacking him.

So Barrett as a future manager, who knows...

Best of luck to him, nice really that Ron allowed him to come home for his final season and to therefore have a proper legend's farewell.......the last time we said a proper farewell to a footballing legend went pretty well as I recall :winking:

Very sad news.

Have to wonder if that was his plan initially or the lack of game time since his arrival has convinced him to make the decision. Either way it's great that he'll get to see out his career here and hopefully something can be organised to see him become part of the coaching set up. Fingers crossed he'll see it out with a promotion!

My favourite defender in my time watching the Blues. Was sensational in the two promotions, both his defending and the goals he scored and led the team well when made captain, and through the difficult last season of Tillys reign. Hopefully he can score the winner vs Luton to secure us automatic promotion.

Southend United legend Adam Barrett reveals he will retire at the end of the season

SOUTHEND United legend Adam Barrett has revealed he will retire at the end of the season.

It's all about timings i guess, what with his flourishing Academy and lack of game time since coming back, along with aging legs . What a brilliant way for him to retire by seeing his boyhood club win promotion in May. I still have an inkling he might be offered a 1 year deal to include coaching alongside his Academy work :Worthy:

Less of the boyhood please he is West Ham

Legend player but don't over play it

I feel sorry for the academy he runs. What are they going to do when AB is our manager? I wonder if he will bring Che in as his assistant? It will be reminiscent of better days.

Corrected for you

If you disagree with someone fine - debate the point. But it is bad practice to change his words to suit your, possibly minority, opinion.

Truth probably somewhere in between. Decent player, useful at both ends of the pitch in his day.

Legend ? Probably not except in the devalued sense of the word.

Barrett is not a true Southend fan. I didn't see him off his nut at Swindon away with his top off, back the game not caring about the score and shouting abuse to the home fans. That's what real supporters do isn't it ;-)

Think this is the right and honest call by Mr Barrett as he would never of been good enough for us if we went back into league one and although on the night against stevenage was one of our better defenders that night he got found out as well as Bolger did to in the legs, great player in his day and could still be a good player in the right side maybe, hope he stays beyond this season and gets offered a coaching role with us as he is a top guy:thumbsup:

Oh grow a pair Mick please. Bad form is to edit the original post which remains untouched. I'm sure OP saw the funny side.
