Barnsley win

Any of you that havent seen the result Stoke 0-1 Barnsley.

Thats their game in hand over us and now puts 7 points between us with them having a slightly better goal difference

still if we pick up 4 or 5 more points than them in our other games then beat them at home we can stay up, we have got an easier run-in than others, a few of the relegation contenders to come to us so its not as bad as the league table looks so keep the faith

True it's utter rubbish the result tonight, especially as I had Barnsley as dead certs for going down.
The only crumb of hope to be taken from tonight is they will not be winning too many games playing the way they did. Truly awful side who deserve to be in League 1 if you ask me.
Still, they have 7 points more than us, so I can't argue too much.
Just puts even more pressure on Saturday's game.

that hungarian looks good... i have an insurance bet on barnsley leeds and luton winning.. only put 50p on it though so might get 33quid, but will soften the blow seeing as im a skint student!

Well maybe QPR was our pinnacle of the season and we are in for an average end to our season ie relegation!. Barnsley although being a donkey of a team like you rightly said Keefmoon are now 7 points better off than us, and therefor like you the one guaranteed team i thought would finish below us are now seemingly putting results together, i dont want to seem a gloomy supporter as i dont wanna get told off by the mods:p but i cant see a team with 31 pts from 35 games getting the 50 odd points the optimists think we will end up with. Oh id love to have egg on my face come May

hmm i've always thought barnsley had a bit about them to be honest. still stick with leeds luton and qpr to go down... in qpr and leeds we have 2 teams who are definitely worse than us on current form and just from the looks of them, so it's s**** with us needing to try and catch luton, barnsley and hull and try and bring them into it. a win on sat with some results our way this week will change it all around yet again!

Not a gimme though is it? Im sorry although i love the shrimpers with everything i just cant see us stringing to many results together as our boys dont usually perform that well under pressure, and its hardly going to be relaxed for them with us lot at the hall moaning (i dont usually moan) just gutted about Barnsley thats all

I never said it was a gimme... just think we have a good chance still. Yes it is true that we don't play very well under pressure (the end of the last 2 seasons show that)... but I wonder if:
1. there is a little less pressure on the boys this season than in the last two?? we know that our fundamental team isn't quite good enough for this league and we haven't quite had the luck, but we will have bags full of experience next season and although it doesnt often happen we have a good chance of bouncing back up
2. our boys have learnt to deal with the pressure as many of the team were there over the last 2 seasons (and don't forget that we came through the playoffs, probably the most stressful series of games a team can play in) and hung on to automatic promotion... we still did it!!

i think there have been a lot of positives from the wednesday game and just that little bit of luck could see us get some results.. It's going to be tough but I can't think of anyone i would rather have at the helm than Tilly and Brush and I think we have enough wise heads in our squad to help the boys get through this

Yea, I'm in the doom and gloom camp tonight - (should've taken £250K for Freddy and run for cover :p )

It is only the optimists on here that are keeping my hope alive now Im afraid . If we need 50 points to stay up then we need 1.7 points average per match and only the top 2 or 3 teams in the division have managed that over the season so far !

Sorry jontosh i wasnt directly quoting you mate and what you say does make sense, im just feeling like an old moany git tonight as it looks like our hard work up until the last few results has been taken away again, but hey ho still 11 games to go mate

Things dont appear to be going our way, however:

1. We have a side that gives a 100% every week
2. We are not a one man team, we have a number of people that can score goals and do.
3. Freddie hasnt yet come good.
4. We have team spirit that no ever side in the league has.

Bottom line, FEED THE SHRIMPERS THEY WILL SCORE, THEY WIN GAMES GAMES GAMES!

Blind optimism, its the best kind:)

Yep, finished off a bottle of red from last night!
My head tells me we cant do it, but the thought of celebration beers after the game when we have just done it keeps me going, now that is a couple of pints im looking forward to:)

Tilson has made a big point in recent interviews about not following the Barnsley model and bringing a lot of players who aren't good enough for the championship. Yet as far as I can see there is nothing wrong with the odd dodgy Hungarian loanee.

This is what I find worrying about the "it's ok'ish to get relegated this season". What experience will we have?

JCR - allegedly worth £400-£600k will he want to stay.
Fredy - we won't get £5m for him as a L1 player, maybe £1.5m max. But for his career to progress he should go.
Flavs - best keeper we've ever had (yea right!). Has wanted away before so may well decide he's not a L1 man any more.
Gower - playing well, despite my reservations about his fitness. He has undoubted skill, perhaps might interest someone.
Hammell - will he want to play L1 after the SPL or decide he's homesick for chilly Jockoland.
Maher - undoubtedly the best player we've ever had & possibly in the history of world football. Surely another club will finally recognise this.
Efe - who knows?
Spinner - retiring
Clarke - if he keeps playing well, I think he might interest somebody.
Foran - £150k is a lot for a L1 winger, if we're never going to play him at centre forward.

Look I know some of those are a bit spurious but certainly we'd lose JCR & Fredy at least if we go down. But it's ok as at least Prince Harry & Billy the Painter will be up front.
