barnsley Fans not over the moon either...

Cant say I blame them altough I imagine an away draw meaning they get to leave the ****hole that is Barnsley all be it for a day has got to be a good thing surely.....

I think they're a bit cheeky saying they're a bigger, better and more supported team than us. I don't remember them having huge crowds last season, and they were struggling down our end of the Championship table last season with us. I think it's an entirely winable game.

We probably fancy our chances, they should fancy their chances. Why don't we just rest our players in the league and focus on the cup? If Man Utd can account for Arsenal/Chelsea, Liverpool didn't look great yesterday by any stretch and Premiership teams seem to be dropping like flies.

It's definitely our year

They tend to average more than, us, they play in a higher division, they have been in the Premiership in recent times and they have better players. I think they have a point.

I still think it's winnable - probably more winnable than playing them in they league last year as they'll most likely think we're a soft touch. Clean sheet might give us a chance.

Why?

They are.

I thought it was a win-able game last season too.

Their average attendance last year was around the same as ours and, whilst it's obviously higher than ours this season, its still below 50% of the capacity of their stadium. They might be having an ok season but are really only 7 points off the relegation spots, they might have spent a season in the FAPL but equally spent 3 seasons in L1 not so long ago, we gained promotion ahead of them and they were in the relegation battle last season too. I really don't think there's much difference between the two clubs.

and they've only won once away from home all season, so I doubt they'll be coming here full of confidence as some of their fans would have you believe.

Well mixed feeling after reading that. Firstly they are right, we are more disappointed than they are surely, like one of them said, we got through 3 rounds to draw the shower of sh!te that they are yet they have only had one game.

They are also right in that they are a bigger club with more fans, but how much bigger? Not much at all. And to say that if we beat them it will be hailed as a giant killing is slightly inaccurate and quite frankly laughable. Beating Manchester United was a giant killing! Something we will never do for a very long time, we beat Barnsley in the cup last year and that certainly wasnt hailed as a giant killing. Just becuase we went down a league doesnt all of a sudden make them giants and us little mice! Its like Derbey beating the likes of Blackburn or someone and having that labelled as a giant killing - ridiculous!!

Its a winable tie for either team. I fancy our chances really esp as the potential for a massive payday and a glamour tie, should be enough to liven the players up a bit.

League 1, 2005-06:

Barnsley 9,054
Southend 8,053

Championship, 2006-07

Barnsley 12,733
Southend 10,054

Giants they may not be (hence it won't be a giant-killing - they really do need to lower their own sights!), but they do get bigger gates than we do when in comparable divisions... Still, hope the northern monkeys rock up here full of swagger and complacency. They're not half as good as they think they are.

Nor are we, mind.
:fart:

I wonder if Barnsley will anounce on their website the day before the game that all their key players are out injuted before all making a miraculous recovery in time to play.

well there are 7 ties (including us) without a prem team, and so if we get through there is a 6 in 15 chance of not getting a prem team... not the worst odds for getting to the quarters!

Not sure if that's as good as they think we are or we think we are. I think either might apply!

To be fair on them, they have a better support then us (currently, due to their higher league status) with 10,425 in their last league home game and 12,398 in the game before. They are better then us, as they managed to avoid relegation and are now only 5 points off the playoffs. However, we can win this game, if only our defence would manage a clean sheet. I'd still say Barnsley are favourites though.

Interesting point I just saw:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/7157274.stm

Kettle reffed their game against Stoke:

Sent Off: Foster (90).
Booked: Souza, Howard, Foster, Macken.
Booked: Pugh, Shawcross, Lawrence.

Good old Kettle, 7 yellows and 1 red, at least he is consistent...

not the most glam of ties but we've got to get on with it now. hopefully we can give them a good game and see who we get in the next round.

They are a bigger side, been in the Prem (fleetingly) in recent memory, bigger average crowd, signed JCR off us (THANK YOU!!!).

However it's winnable for us, we've got a crack at round 5.

Barnsley have always been a side I have looked out for there results since I went up there when we drew 2-2 and someone in the road next to the ground had replaced their front door with a patio door which opened straight onto a terraced road !!!

Basd on this I am sure were going to win 3-1.
