A rock solid Labour Safe seat with a huge ex-mining community who wouldn't vote in anyone else even if their children were held at gun point. They don't count the Labour vote in Barnsley, they weigh it. I fail to see the great shock this result has produced. It was obvious that the Lib Dem vote would collapse after they had back tracked over so many of their manifesto promises. The only surprise here is UKIP coming in second as safe Labour seats never seem to have much support for Euro sceptics.

Ah, Oldham East & Saddleworth I presume. Hardly an earth shattering result given the Lib Dems and their back tracking. I expect to see many more Lib Dem collaspses before the next election. At least the Tories are standing by their own convictions while the Lib Dems sold theirs down the river. By the way, any chance of Milliband coming up with something of his own rather then just poo- pooing and looking smug. If that is our next PM in waiting then God help us all.

I would agree that Millibean's performance has been distinctly average so far but I'm more than ever convinced that this will be a one term Government.

I think the Lib Dems are going to get a royal tonking in the locals and can see them losing control of most of their councils. As for a one term Government, I think you might be right.

It maybe a one term Government, but I don't see them calling an election anytime soon, so they'll run until May 2015 IMO. As for Barnsley a place where they still think Scargill is a hero, and the former MP is doing time you can draw your own conclusions.

I predict they'll be another leadership contest in whichever version of Labour is currently in opposition, Moribund minor sits and gulps like an ineffectual lizard while Balls will plot his downfall like the bug eyed lunatic he is.

Do you not understand that people see it as hypocritical when you are off living in a different country and "celebrating" political success by Labour in this? Like Harry says, Barnsley was never going to return anything other than a convincing Labour majority. You could put a blind elephant in under the Labour name and it would still win.
