Question Bands or solo artists you would like to see?

Guns and roses- I had tickets for the “ docklands arena” in the early nineties, both times they cancelled last minute due to axle being an arse.

In 2017 they played at Stratford and were incredible.( and on time).
Brilliant brilliant concert , rolled back the years and he could still sing unlike many 80’s icons

Interesting take on Axl Rose. (Spelling is important because it's an anagram of oral sex.)

Do you remember years ago the BBC did a charity version of Perfect Day when a different famous singer sang a couple of words?

Well, they tried another one a few years later (which I don't think was as successful), where a very close friend of mine was booked as the Director of Photography (they do the light and camera). His job was to fly around the world recording all the famous people singing their bit. Two of the people involved were Jon Bon Jovi and Axl Rose. Anyway, after JBJ had done his bit he mentioned it on social media. At that point AR pulled out.

The reason was that he suffers (and apparently always has done) from sever stage fright. Even though this was being filmed in secrecy and behind closed doors, the fact that JBJ had mentioned it affected AR to the point where he simply wasn't able to do it.

It must be so frustrating to have tickets and have them cancel, but I do have some sympathy for him. I'm not sure, however, if that would be the case had he cancelled on me!

I never saw Soft Cell in their prime and I love their music - I know they are touring again (with Peter Hook supporting in some cases) but not sure how good they would be after all these years. Numan and the Mode are still performing at a high level so maybe it will be worth a look.

A mate of mine told me back in the day, he ended up at a Kursaal Flyer show by mistake, as he bumped into another mate who was going, but couldn't find anyone that wanted to see them, as they were seen as a bit of a novelty act. Anyway, my mate goes along to be nice, and didn't fancy it one bit. Then he said he couldn't believe how good they were. Great musicians, great singer with a stage presence, he said. He even ended up buying their LP called Golden Mile, another Southend reference, along with their name.
Anyway, I found this recently and quite enjoyed it. It's a documentary of them trying to make it, but a lot of fly on the wall stuff. They also survived some gigs in Scotland, Lol, as any English band not good on the night in those times, were given special treatment, usually beaten up or bottles thrown at them. So they must have been good.
I'm wondering if Rob Noxious has seen this?

Thanks, Ronnie - I had seen a bit of this before but not the whole lot. I'll be giving it a proper look-over soon.

You'll probably remember Graeme Douglas (the lead guitarist) from your days at Belfairs when he was a teacher there in the early seventies. He's played a few gigs down here in west Cornwall in recent years. Lovely bloke.

Paul Shuttleworth is still performing with Richie Bull (and others) in The Ugly Guys. Met him a couple of times in pubs - The Railway (when GD was playing with The Hot Flyers) and the Apple Tree (near Mount Pleasant PO, when there was a music session on), and he seemed a nice guy too.

Will Birch has gone on to write some fine books about music, i.e. 'No Sleep 'til Canvey Island' and biographies of Ian Dury and Nick Lowe.

As for Vic Collins, I heard a few years ago that he was a guitar tutor and was teaching at Southend High.

Not in this film but Barry Martin, who replaced GD in the Kursaals when GD went off to join the Hot Rods, was the front man for The Hamsters for several years.

Soft Cell are playing Audley End next weekend. I popped over and saw Noel Gallagher last weekend, he was supported by the Zutons and Tom Meighan (Kasabian). Oh and it was peeing down with rain!!

His only UK tour was 65 years ago. His music is not "my era" but I understand its significance so if I could be dropped back in time for any one concert, I might choose one of these.

Just look at these dates and venues. 25 consecutive nights. They don't do it like this any more!

I recall Sparks playing twenty-five of their albums (with one album a night) on consecutive nights at a London venue in the late noughties.

I've always wanted to see Mike and The Mechanics live again but when they rocked up to the Cliffs recently Mike Rutherford was the only member of the group with any longevity so I passed on that. Would love to see the Stones live again.
I have seen them twice
