Ballboys today

EDIT - just realised that this didn't actually happen at the game in Leicester!

If we'd played well and this cost us points I'd be more gutted.

The trouble wasn't with what Leicester were doing, its that we aren't ruthless enough to do the same at Roots Hall. There have been occasions when we are drawing and desperately looking for that winner against a lesser team, when with 5 or 10 minutes to go, the ball-boys up and leave. This is clearly ridiculous.

The ball-boys' interest always seems greater when the team is winning and so this is when they are extra keen and get the ball back quickly, whilst when we are struggling and need the ball quickly they doze off. This does us no favours. A little bit of ball-boy training would do us no harm. We are unnecessarily putting ourselves at a disadvantage over clubs like Leicester.

I was a ball boy once years back at the Hall. We were winning 1 nil at half time and were told to ‘take our time’ when giving the ball back to the away team.

We are in no place to complain – we were poor at Leicester and like England needed Ronaldo it seems you guys also need a escape goat and in this case you have picked the ball boys? Well done.

Quote[/b] (Xàbia Shrimper @ Aug. 27 2006,10:05)]I watch CD Javea in the Regional Preferente and, if kick-off times permit, I also watch Valencia in the Primera Liga; both teams have ball-boys who seek to gain an advantage to the home side. It happens everywhere. If every home side did it, nothing more could be said as the law of averages would even things out over the season. If it is so beastly, then the governing bodies should decree so and ban the practice. They haven't so no-one should complain about it. I can't help feeling that if we'd won, this issue would not have been brought to the fore. But it seems to be an ideal excuse to hide the fact that OUR team played crap yesterday?
Just because something happens everywhere and everyone is doing it doesn't mean it is not wrong or that we shouldn't do something about it.

I don't think anyone is putting this forward as a reason for us not winning Saturday, just merely that it is out of order. Are we saying that we can't criticise a referee's performance if we lose, for fear of it being used as an excuse?

The practice of selective multi-ball was first introduced some years ago at Reading under the delightful Alan Pardew. It only really works in big stadiums.

The only time clubs are allowed to water their pitch at half time is if they water both halves.

If the Referee is aware that only one half has been watered it should be reported to the Competition who should take action. Mind you, as some of the refs seem only barely aware of what's going on when they're on they pitch, it's quite likely they would miss any half-time activity.

well maybe someone (shotgun not me!) should write to the club and maybe to leicester to find out whats going on, cos that watering incident was against the rules if what mick says is true

Both ends were watered actually, albeit the end furthest away from us was watered first and for the majority of the time, leaving only minutes for the other end. Anyway, both teams have to play in that half, us defending and them attacking so where is the unfairness ? If the end we were attacking was dryer then wouldnt that have given our forwards an advantage and more ball control ? The watering of the pitch isnt cheating !!
