Ballboys today

Badger74

Manager
Did anyone else notice that the ballboys were only ever in the Leicester half when attacking so they could get the ball to them quicker.
Yet when we were attacking and the ball went out not a ballboy in sight so we had to hold up play for a ball to be collected or thrown back to the player
CHEATS

Yup, noticed that as well and if i remember right a couple of Premshyte teams were reported to the FA for doing exactly the same last season. Unsportsmanlike conduct or such like I think it was.

Talking of cheating. What's with the watering at half time of the flanks we were attacking in the second half|?

Yes I noticed , mainly due to a man in a white away shirt sitting next to McNasty bringing it to my attention. Was that you?

Just another note to that, the ball was never actually thrown back to a Southend player.

There was always a mad rush 'multi-ball' system going on for whenever Leicester had a throw-in which did, once or twice, nearly end up with two balls on the pitch. Though whenever it was a Southend throw- the ball was either placed on the edge of the grass for our player to collect it themselves or placed, then rolled along the ground.

Though if we had been 1-0 up, I don't think I would have been too bothered!

I pointed the same out to my wife. I couldn't believe it. I also noticed that they never actually gave the ball back to a Southend player, the best they did was to roll it back...

Certainly did notice. They all disappeared near the end as well i think.

Typical really of the "top" teams. Using every trick in the book, which i suppose they are entitled to do.

come off it Mike. I believe the majority of fans would be disgusted if we behaved this way. I'm still recovering from the ball ball at Walsall throwing the ball away from Roycie when he wanted to take a quick goal kick at the end of a game a few seasons ago. It's not the way to teach kids how to behave.

The majority of teams do it so I can't see the "majority of fans" being disgusted by it. I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over it ...

If the majority of teams do it Mike, and I don't go to many away games these days to judge, then the FA or League should remind clubs that it's not on. I still like to think sportsmanship exists although no doubt I'm being naive.

I watch CD Javea in the Regional Preferente and, if kick-off times permit, I also watch Valencia in the Primera Liga; both teams have ball-boys who seek to gain an advantage to the home side. It happens everywhere. If every home side did it, nothing more could be said as the law of averages would even things out over the season. If it is so beastly, then the governing bodies should decree so and ban the practice. They haven't so no-one should complain about it. I can't help feeling that if we'd won, this issue would not have been brought to the fore. But it seems to be an ideal excuse to hide the fact that OUR team played crap yesterday?

Who cares... we should of got the ball in the net on the pitch... We had the chances...
Maybe we should do it to the teams that visit roots hall.

I very rarely disagree with you, but this is complete drivel. It simply isn't sportsman like, and should be dealt with.

In one small way it was. A paid ball boy in Brazil was suspended and then sacked for such a practice. Teams should be reprimanded for such actions.

Also, are you really saying that the law is the law and no-one has the right of protest?

But it ISN'T being dealt with - universally not just in the UK - that's my point. It may be bad sportsmanship, I agree, but football in the 21st century is no longer about sportsmanship, this is not the age for the spirit of CB Fry's Corinthians. These days football - and sport as a whole - is all about being successful ... by fair means or foul ... no matter what level of the game is being played. And that's sad. However the game IS all about money now and the board of directors must ensure that their football club makes money, to the detriment of the very spirit in which the game was played when it first began. I may speak complete drivel but there is a fine line between drivel and truth. And, in this case, either the football authorities do something about it NOW or we just get on with the game and accept that clubs will use this practice to gain an advantage ...

Im glad i wasn't the only say bar steward to notice it then! A letter of complaint will be written in due course ...

i thought the watering of our half at halftime was pretty suspect. the balls boys issue happens at many clubs, i think the FA should keep an eye on it, it does give the home team an unfair advantage and should therefore be stamped out

Trouble is the clubs that do it have the same ball boys each week & they are trained/told as and when to seek advantage for their team.

At Roots Hall we change the ball boys each week they are usually quite young and would have no idea how to gain an advantage.

As for watering the pitch it happened at Bournemouth away last season. The 'in pitch' watering system was switched on before kick off at the end Flahaven was doing his warm up routine.

Didn't Barnet give us wet socks as well in the FA cup game? When the Ref made us change into their socks they had of course only just been washed and were soaking wet!
