For me, it's wait and see. The squad certainly needs to settle and, I suppose, much now depends on whether Ryan Hall accepts his situation and gets his head down to earn a decent move at the next window, and whether

As for never feeling more despondent and disappointed about a season, I sympathise with your pain buddy, but I think you're either a new supporter or you've not got a great memory. Not the strongest squad we've ever had but a long, LONG way from the worst. A loan signing or two, we'll be fine.

Moan moan moan moan moan!

And weve only sold one player which loads of you up until yesterday thought was average, weak, ****, useless, uncreative, wasteful, clueless etc. Sort it out it's embarrassing!

Some of your opinions are really really cruel considering that you are supposed to be Southend fans, I'd support a sack of **** plonked in the middle of the centre circle if it had the badge on it!

We've got to work with what we've got, counter productive to slag off any of our players!!!!

Such unfair criticism to some of our players it's untrue!

Ignorant pathetic unsupportive opinions!

Do one.

:omg2: OBD we all love the Shrimpers really mate.

So you are simply just choosing to ignore stats and facts to suit your opinion?

Nice work.

No I am just offering a different perspective and one I think others who look at these things subjectively as well as objectively might agree. Football is not like painting with numbers.

You fence sitters really get me down.

In facts reading this again one might suggest that you are choosing to rely solely on your 'stats and facts' to suit yours.

Nope.

My opinion is that he balances the midfield!

Why can't a more defensive/balanced player have an effect on results aswell as the more fluid type wingers?

A player like that can. But you need to ask yourself (a) is it really necessary at home especially against the likes of Accrington Stanley who you know are going to park the bus? and (b) maybe away from home.... but then you need to ask yourself is the player simply good enough to fulfill that role?

I'm sorry because I guess you like him but from what Ive seen the answers are (a) a resounding No and (b) I don't think so. Imo he is and probably only ever will be adequate cover for full back at L2 level.

But football is all about opinions.

I cant understand peoples issue with Leonard he has given nothing but 100% when fit for us and when he got injured last season we missed him massively. His commitment is second to none, his partnership with Clohessy is far better than what Sean was with Hall.
Leonard has a great throw, can be great getting into position ready for a crack and will give his all out on the pitch.

As for Martin what a ridiculous thing to say has barely been played under Sturrock out of no fault of his own. Martin was our best player at Northampton until going off injured and he will be missed massively against Wycombe if ruled out.

You might aswell not bother going being that critical of players who have barely played and an attitude like that stinks, in rough financial times for the club we should be doing what we can to get behind the team and our new signings.

Goalkeepers Belford and Smith ( no experience what planet are you on CLUELESS)

Right back Mr Consistent and most apps last 2 seasons, the only game he missed was when suspended.

You are an absolute fool you sure you not a Col U fan? Phillips and Cresswell brilliant centre halfs, Harris brings plenty of experience, Benyon and Hurst barely tested and Assombolonga a young lad playing his first professional games!!!!

YOUR AN IDIOT
I think you maybe quoted the wrong post, it was obvious Fred's was sarcastic response to supablues', however, I do agree with all you've said...well, down to the "you're an idiot" bit!

We needed to sign players and we havent, like the window last January i said we need to sign a GK and LB and if we dont we will not get promoted, now im unsure if we can get in the top half of the table, i blame sturrock he had plenty of time and signed nothing tbh

I like many was dissapointed with yesterday, I really thought we would sign a couple in at least. However, the squad we do have is a pretty good one, if not very big. We do now have two good league two keepers, decent defence and midfield although low in numbers. Up front when fit a decent forward line. Hall chose not to go to Blackpool so that's a bonus. The loan market starts soon and I expect PS to use this. We have not had a great start but it takes time with new players and we have also been unfortunate with injuries. But today is our fourth league game out if 46, give it time . Many teams start of slowly and build momentum as the season grows. What we need to do as fans is get behind the team and try to be positive.

Agree with you in the main but not sure Hall chose not to go to Blackpool. He was going to sign for them but run out of time.

We. Don't. Have. Any. Money.

I dont blame PS, Im sure he does his best within the constraints placed upon him.

Agreed - I am almost positive that IF Tilson had stayed then we would be gracing the conference by now.

We are lucky to have someone of Sturrocks quality and stature because if it weren't for that the squad would be in a far worse state than it currently is.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee.....

The only way yesterday made any real difference to us, with regard to the season, is if we were going to lay money for someone. I think we all agreed that the only signings we would make would be free transfers or loan signings, and we can make those again in a weeks time anyway.

On a slightly different note, I cringe every time someone talks up a players ability by mentioning a long throw. If a long throw is a strength that needs to be mentioned then they clearly lack many more important skills

A question for those in the know, although I believe it's not allowed. We can't sign a player from another team even on a free. Could that team cancel a players contract to make them a free agent and then allow us to sign them, benefitting the team by getting the player off of their wage bill and us by getting a new player.?

OK, I had a few too many wines last night and was probably being a bit brutal, and speaking my mind.....Got to stop coming on the internet when I'm hammered.....Anyway, I wanted to respond to a couple....

OBD, you just irritate me....If we only had 5 players and got kicked out of the league, or if Paul Sturrock took us into the Olympian League in straight relegations, you'd still be supportive of the officials at the club or backing the manager.....For the record, I will NEVER stop loving this team and my comments are only my way of venting my frustrations....I simply don't understand why teams like Peterborough, Stevenage and Colchester are doing so much better than us given the simple mathematics that our supporter base is larger than theirs which obviously points to a mismanagement somewhere...Maybe I'm just jealous of the fact that they have generous chairmen....It just stings when I see one of our better players get snapped up by Peterborough when it should be the other way around......I know the club is skint and I know the reality, but it doesn't make it any easier for us fans.....For me, its the equivalent of visiting your Dad on a life support machine...Upsetting.

you mean you were more positive 2 years ago when we had 4 players signed and had let go quality players for nothing?
You were more positive when we were not paying wages for months at a time and were hours away from going into administration ?
Two years ago when everyone would call you an idiot if you said that in 2012 Eastwood would be signing for us

I know, but at least we knew the full extent of the problems back then and we knew that we'd be lucky just to get a team together back then. To go from that year to one where we considered ourselves promotion material last season and now to this just feels like we went one step forward and now we're two steps back.....Don't you feel that?

Actually I am quite jealous of you, as when we go up its going to be such a surprise to you that you will probably enjoy it more than I do

I honestly want SUFC to prove me completely and utterly wrong, I want that more than anything else......Promotion would make me absolutely euphoric.....

I don't moan all the time, only when the club just sits on its hands like it did yesterday or underachieves....We needed players and we got none and are now stuck with what we have which I honestly can't see us getting close to the play-offs with....I stand by my assessment I made of our players last night, and if people like OBD want to just play out scenes from the Emperors New Clothes, then fine, but I am not going to start gushing over players who are simply "poor"....I call a spade a spade and thats just who I am......

But to re-iterate, I am a BLUES fan, and on the terraces I cheer all 11 players wearing the badge.........UTB

If Paul Sturrock took us do the depths of the Olympian league I would want him sacked, if we get relegated this year then there's something wrong and I'd wan him gone!

Point is, we are going for promotion this year, and we don't have 5 players and we aren't in the Olympian league.

Argument void.

It's bizarre, we have one of the most experienced, successful lower league managers, he has performed absolute miracles in the last two seasons, and the huge disrespect and (IMHO) ignorant criticism he gets is just astonishing. OBD says, put a sack of **** in the centre circle with the badge on and he would support it - great quote. How much more then should we be getting completely behind our manager this season? The tiniest thing could make a difference - stop moaning and start supporting.

Ummm, not really. PS (and anybody else for that matter) is dreaming if he thinks he has a team capable of challenging promotion this year.....

Of course my comments were a bit tongue in cheek regarding my examples to make a point.....
