Away Strips

The key is to get 'Explosive Fibres' to make the kit next season so that it changes colour all by itself. I have emailed Ron and if he doesn't address late 80s rave fashion in next weeks blog I will be very disappointed to say the least.

i personally like the red kit, but like the yellow a lot more. plus like the yellows chant. but i completely agree that its no fair on supporters who have bought the red kit. i remember months ago i was in the shop when i over heard a member of staff saying that the players liked the yellow kit as did the back room staff and they doubt we will play in red again unless having to. hence me not bothering to buy the red kit and it being the only kit on sale recently.

for me thought, yellow all the way.

I have to agree 100% with that as I have all three bought the blue and red and got the yellow for christmas. And in the club shop all the red tops have been reduced from £40 down to £35 and now down to £22ish I believe!!!!
This is indeed correct, the Yellow and Blue Shirts are still £40.00 but the Red shirts are about £25 now. I prefer the yellow away shirt and would be very happy to see it as our away shirt for next season.

I would like to see the player wear their own choice of clothes and just wear a home or away coloured bib during matches.

This works for us when we play over at Prittlewell chase and gives people a chance to express themselves on and off the ball.

I personally think Nike is a bit too urban and prefer a bit of continental style like Lotto anyway.

I suppose that if a thread about what colour strip we wear can be up to nearly 50 posts then we can take comfort with the fact there can't be too many major issues with the way the team is playing at the moment. If this is the worst thing we can moan about then things must be pretty rosy right now.

Aint the Yellow kit sold more then the Red kit and Blue kit???
dont some the players and fans want us to bring it back the Yellow and Blue kit as home kit?
the club are going to find it hard pushed not to play in yellows week in week out as our away kit and i cant see them finding easy to take it away as there be calls for the Yellow and Blue Home kit to come back.

I like the way the North American Sports Leagues address this. Every team's second kit is white. The home team plays in red, blue, black etc and the road team plays in white. Unusual for our American brethren to come up with such an elegant solution that doesn't exploit the fans. It also challenges their commercial departments to come up with ever more ridiculous items to sell in their club shops when they don't change the jerseys every year.

Although a lot of NFL teams have started to offer a 3rd alternate colour shirt, e.g. the red NY Giants jersey they play in once a season.

I do like this idea though, makes things so much simpler.

Sadly, 'tis true, and the 'third' jerseys are proving to be a popular concept with the American punters because they haven't had anything new for a while. I do like the way that teams use 'retro' jerseys for a new look, as the Montreal Canadiens did this year to celebrate their 100th season. The Chargers and Jets have also done this in the NFL. I would love to see us running out in the old blue and white shirts with the Access logo from the early 80s.

The first time the yellow kit came out was for the Scunthorpe game as their home kit's shade of maroon clashed with both the red and blue kits. This obviously led to the return of the 'YEELLOWS' chant which meant a great atmosphere in the away end that night. Clearly the club picked up on that and decided to stick with Yellow.

The question is how long this lasts for (for the record, I'm one of those that has got both red and yellow kits this season). If the club sticks with the yellow kit next season then fair enough. If they change kits/colours yet again I'd consider that very poor form. The jury's out until then...

The return to the yellow away kit is fantastic, it's been brilliant to bring back the "YEEELLLOOOWS" chant at away games - takes me back to the late 80's/early 90's, great stuff!!

I usually like our red kids (the away version of the custard-splat being to this day my favourite Southend kit ever), but this year's red offering was horrid. It's just far too Leyton Orient for my tastes and I applaud the club for releasing this and offering the yellow alternative.

That's exactly what they do here in the A-League. All teams have a coloured home and a white away kit and the away team always wears white. I don't know if I like it though - every game I turn up it's Orange vs White and gets a bit tedious.

Edit - The exception to this rule is in the Finals (playoffs) at the end of the season when away teams where their home shirts. Don't ask me why. Just thought I'd say in case someone googles some pictures and calls me a liar.

I love the idea of a retro week though, where all teams where an historic kit. That would be great.
