6,500 odd for a Monday night in cold and on sky with sod all away following!!!! Very good!

Shame that it sounded so poor on the telly. I guess that's more down to the microphone placement, than the actually atmosphere at the game. 6,500 is a great effort, especially considering that Burton only brought down 5 fans.

No, we were quiet for much of the game, but we're singing when the first two goals were scored

It took us lot in the East Bank until the 90th minute to break out in a chorus of "Top of the league, you're having a laugh!", but the lino got a full blooded boo! .. as he walked off at half-time.

Thought the atmosphere in the ground was very good, most of the game.

Another great night under the lights! .. As all memories of Southend seem to be.

Maybe it is down to mike placement, or maybe the camera man on the line turned them off after he got the ball straight down his lens. Seriously, I thought the noise in the West was really good last night. TBV were consistently tribal and their volume was very impressive. Well done TBV, you even got T block in the groove at times.

I actually thought it was very quite from about 20 mins to 80 mins but decent in patches.

It doesn't help when it's practically home support only

Completely agree. Even my dad said the same.

When they announced 96 away fans my dad joked that that must include the players and people in the directors' box.

There was a mike directly in front of W block. We were quiet at times, kind of matched the performance on the pitch during much of the first half!

Definitely freebies or "giveaways" in South Lower, but it all adds to the attendance, and if it encourages people to come back then it's all good.

The south stand looks so much better when it's full up especially the south lower! On tv it normally looks like we have no supporters

The atmosphere for most of the first half was flat and surreal even, like attending a reserve game. Part of the problem of going to football on a Monday evening I guess. Second half started like that too but after Burton had a couple of attempts on goal the crowd seemed to lift to gee up the players to start playing with some intensity. Then the crowd was pretty decent and certainly after the goals!

They should give freebies in the South Lower to schools for every game.

What have we got to lose?

The atmosphere was a bit flat at times. Though the linesman did get quite a few people making noise a few times. :)

As much as the weekday evening games can be a bit flat sometimes and - for me - a bit of a pain because I don't get back home till gone half eleven, there's something about it.

Walking up towards the stadium in the dark on a cold, crisp night and catching that first glimpse of the floodlights glimmering through a gap in the buildings. There's something a bit magical about it that always takes me back to being a little kid again and being brought to a game by my Dad.

I have not always been a fan of some of the antics from the TBV section but I thought that it had a real affect last night. It was quiet and then someone got a continuous sound going in the second half and I think it really lifted the team. Their reactions seemed to support this with several turning to encourage more support. Not a singer myself but hats off to all those who are, I think you made a difference last night. Worth remembering in the run and also worth considering how positive or negative energy from the crowd can affect the team.

They were free tickets given to local schools a couple weeks ago.

Great description, that.

Exactly this.

The half eleven bit is why I have always liked Friday nights more than any others, Saturday is not often a work day for me. But you're so right about the floodlights shining through the slight haze of a cold, crisp night, just gives that shiver of anticipation that tonight might just be a special night..... In fact I would say that most of my favourite memories have been under the floodlights.

Is that really a surprise when most matches (even Saturday afternoon ones) have the floodlights turned on?

:winking:
