Att: Ron Martin or club spokesman....

****ing ridiculous Martin.. ****ing ridiculous.

You have just said there is no money to pay the wages they want? How much raised form shares then? I thought this was for the good of the team..

So come on Ron, where is the money then? You need to keep players like Bailey, instead of being so bloody gun ho..

If Bailey wants £4,500 a week or whatever Ron's totally right to tell him where to go.

Devil's advocate

We have no need to offer him anything this year, with two years left it would have been perfectly reasonable to wait a year before offering him anything. We seek to reward him for his efforts, and who is to say we didn't offer him a substantial increase? But more than double is ridiculous and an insult.

And I beg to differ - with a ludicrous demand like that, then I think promptly placing him on the transfer list is a time-honoured and effective negotiating tactic.

We are trying to tie our players in on a longer contract for our benefit both on the pitch and for resale value. The agents are trying to get the best possible contracts for their players. That's normal!

Ron is a fantastic businessman and is 'calling their agent's bluff'. When you are doing any deal and the gap between the two (willing) parties is close, a compromise is likely to be reached. When the gap is huge, as Ron has stated, or in this case where one or more of the players listed probably wants to leave, what can be done?

Ron has done the right thing....

It will be interesting to see whether any of these players do end up moving on. If they do, I doubt whether we will ever find out if they end up getting the wages they were demanding from us. League 1 teams, with the exception of the likes of Leicester and Leeds etc. probably not, CCC teams? There is a good chance they will.

IMO Clarke is nowhere near good enough to play at a higher level than league 1. His distribution is poor and his positional play is awful. Last season, Francis made a big improvement and Bailey was fantastic (in League 1). However, one swallow doesn't make a Summer!

I believe that us the fans deserve more answers and reasurance than just offered contracts and they said no so i stuck them in the tranfer market.

We want to know if he the club believes the players will eventually sign or not.

We want to know if we have received any offers for these players or not and if we have will any/all funds be used to strengthen the side.

We want to know if we dont receive any offers how is the club/management going to get the best out of the players that are still contracted.

How can we improve upon this years performance in the league and push on to championship football if we cant keep hold of our best players.

How can we expect quality players to come if they know we dont pay quality player wages and will transfer list any players who dont agree terms.

All in all i do trust Ron because all he has promised has come true , but a statement from the man himself of the management would go a long way right now.

I do understand your concerns with significant players being listed, but I think the OS article explains the clubs thinking behind all of this.

There are numerous posts on this subject doing the rounds at the moment and I feel we need to put this all in perspective.

As some one posted on another thread "no one has died"

Well we learn't this week that a close family friend has less than three months to live as he has lung cancer that has spread to his brain.

Now, this guy is a Spam supporter but takes an interest in our club due to my following. I went to see him tonight and we got chatting about this and that and the subject moved on to football. He asked me what was happening at Southend and I told him the latest news. His respense was this

"Jesus Andy I have not got long left but wouldn't like to be a Southend fan at the moment. But reember mate you can still go and see them next season, one which I will not make"

Football is football and we all support this this club and get angry, happy and all other emotions and yes it does matter. But times move on and we don't want to be putting this club in dire financial problems just because players agents "demand" a certain wage.

Whatever happens we have a club we love and support and lets back the board and the management to do what is right, if they eff it up then you can moan, but no one has gone yet and this club will not be held to ransom by money grabbing agents.

I for one, whatever happens am looking forward to next season, as being a Southend fan is a rollercoaster and one I don't ever want to get off.

What has your summer holiday destination got to do with this ?

Very good statement from Ron. He's tried to be reasonable and he's left the door open for the players. Well done sir.

maybe mr martin will learn from his mistakes and sign a player like bailey on a intial 4 year contract. giving someone a year/two contract is not really motivating tbh.

then we would not be in this bloody mess

Giving a conference player a four year contract in League 1?! Are you insane? Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I thought the 3 year contract was pushing it at the time.

Boys and Girls, our chairmen has probably negotiated hundreds if not thousands of contracts over his business life and probably knows better than most when he is being taken for a ride and he probably feels in this instance some people are trying it on here. Agents are bottom feeders making a living of someone else which is a shame. When it comes to doing business and writing contracts we probably have a man in charge thats read the book, watched the film and seen the play, in other words I think Ron knows whats value for money and what the club can afford to pay

Im sorry but don't agree with this at all. Im pretty sure that Bailey was already earning a good wage here. To more than double his wages is madness. Who the hell does his agent think he is?! How would some of the other players react if they knew Bailey had his wages doubled. He is lucky to have come from Barnet then a year later be doing well at a club and getting offered another upgraded contract. What an ungrateful sh*t.

I think Ron Martin is bang on here. When Bailey sees that his wage demands by his agent are out of hand, he may have to come back with his tail between his legs and take the more realistic but still improved offer.

At the end of the day, Ron T&B need to build for the future so it is important to try and secure the better players for as long as possible so if they are trying it on then wack them on the transfer list and see how they like that. i think some of the players are clearly getting above their station. If they can go elsewhere and get the money they want and still get to play week in week out then good luck to them. I think we may well see a few sheepish players on the pitch next season and I think they will get a lot of stick.

Does Bailey actually realise what sort of an impact this could have on his career. He is had a great season, player of the year, improved contract offered and a year earlier he was playing at Barnet. To me this would sound like a footballers dream. He has now obviously got too big for his boots and is demanding wages out of his zone. If he gets the move to a club which will be able to afford that then it is highly unlikely he will be starting every week as its more likely to be a bigger club. If he doesn't get the move and has to stay at Roots Hall for another year or even until the January transfer window then he will feel like a prize pra*t in front of the crowds and no doubt will get stick. Its a loose loose situation in my eyes. Well done Bailey you've really fu*ked it up.

I second that, would other clubs want this money grabbing fool?

Was a big player for us and it is a shame taht we will probably lose him but thats most footballers and all they want is money!

Come on you bluessss

Most people are getting 2/3% pay rises at the moment and are struggling yet he wants 100%. Bit of a joke really!

I second that, would other clubs want this money grabbing fool?

Unfortunately, for me the answer to that is a resounding yes. A bigger club, with greater financial resources might easily fit him into their wage structure. What would concern me most is that they might feel they could get him on the cheap as we couldn't agree terms.

I 100% support Ron's actions though, as there is no other choice, but only hope his negotiations with other interested parties are as hard line as his stance with Bailey.

I've mentioned this b4 Ron has put them up on the list as clubs are already interested in them so now a lot more clubs would be interested in securing them, however their agents will have a lot to answer for as initally it was them who have put the players in this position as Bailey's agent has already quoted... We came back with a figure and then we'd settle somewhere in between...... Well RON from ROOTS HALL he say NO!

IMO Ron has done what every loyal blues supporter would expect NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB!

Yes we want CCC and with our new Stadium - Support and financial situation WE will attract good hungry players and adapt them with our up and coming Youngsters!

To be honest, D, I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or otherwise, but I wish you'd quoted me in full. As I said, I 100% support Ron's actions
