This is all getting a bit boring really. the point is that roots hall has crap acoustics so when the south stand sings you cant hear it where i am in the east yellows and even though i sit opposite TBV we can see movement more than hear you, thats not a critcism just an observation. i have sat in the east yellows for the past ten years and we do sing not loads of us but we do and when the players are over our side we get behind them and certainly dont shout mindless abuse. well done to TBV fr all your efforts and carry on, shame theirs not more of you. i now bring my 6 year old son so would never contemplate coming in with you, just stay positive and try to get behind the team for 90mins.

There is an obvious nervousness around the Blues when they play at home. It has to stem from the negativity/Atmosphere generated by some of our supporters.
Believe me you hear a lot of what’s being said when you’re on the Roots Hall pitch.
Having said this, the Blues performance is ten times better away from home because of the noise generated by the away support.
I think it was away at Oldham last year or the year below when we were 1-0 down and we didn’t stop singing for 35 mins non-stop. That ball was sucked into the Oldham goal by the fans.
Treat every game home and away like a Swansea, Doncaster, Chelsea and Man U.
I know Lee Barnard well and after the game with Oldham he said that the fans willed the ball into the net!
Finally, I think PS is doing a job that isn’t half bad. Remember when he joined he inherited a relegated club no funds and Granty. He had to build a new team from scratch, 15 new players.
It’s hard enough up the park when you join a game of football. It’s that much harder at this level.
He will get it right however we have to be patient, and stop giving the players grief!

I dont buy into this - it's an excuse made by the manager, players and some supporters to cover up some pretty inept play. We've been 2-0 down twice in the last 2 home games before any negativity had a chance to set in from the crowd. Trust me, the fans will take a lead from the players, go 2-0 up and they will be carried along - even a bit of fight gets backed eg the last 20 mins v Chesterfield.
The players need to take responsibilty, not harp on about negativity in the stands for God's sake! This isn't Junior football and some on here need to remember that. These players are proffesional footballers, earning a living doing what most of us would or have done for nothing.

We all back the blues and want them to do well. There is a lot wrong with this club at the moment but it aint the fans!

I don't buy into this - it's an excuse made by fans to cover up their apathy. We've been 1-0 up and cruising (like when we played this Saturday's opponents at Roots Hall) and the fans have still failed to get behind the team.

If we had the fans playing for free would they still disappear off with 20 minutes remaining? That is if half of them actually turned up in the first place.

grassroots I’m not trying to be condescending however, do you attend away games; if you do you would know what I mean. Travelling away is about out-singing, out-shouting out-everything filing the away end, taking over the local boozers, the journey, it’s a great feeling, and we have a great reputation away from home from a lot of clubs ask Doncaster, Swansea and Southampton, this is all regardless of the score.
Travelling support by definition are more upbeat than home supporters. The one thing I find hard to tolerate is when the players don’t try. This rarely happens away from home, but tends to creep in slightly at home when their heads go down, because the crowd get on their backs.
Also I don’t buy that we have problems/issues at the club. I’m sure it’s not rosy in the garden for the majority of the league clubs. From Man City to Herford the fans will always find fault with their club.
Yes we would all love to be professional footballer however we are not and in most professions, if we were screamed at in the workplace for making a slight error I suspect all our shoulders would drop too:smile:

Maybe thats why the fans are failing to get behind the team - "1-0 up and cruising". Have you seen a home game this season where we have done anything more than 'cruise' because I havent - win, draw or lose. Its very near impossible to get excited over such mediocrity - give us somethibng to get excited about and the fans will follow.

But its not 'just a job' is it? Watching football is a mix of emotions, you love your players and love to hate the opposition. You will your team score and will the opposition to miss. You bait the opposing fans and players, cheer and encourage your own.............to a point. You watch the game on a 'high' and you give vent to your emotions - some will be positive and some negative and its all down to the players how you feel.

On your other point alginon I dont get to too many away games, but I do understand what you are saying. Not sure if you remember when 'we' had the North bank, but I am convinced that this is the problem at Roots Hall and of course all seater stadia. No matter what the crowd, the North bank would make a great atmosphere which would reveberate around the ground, but of course the Club will always tell you 'it cant be done'.

Anyway, carry on the good work mate and you guys are just far enough away from Block T not to get on my nerves with that bloody drum!

Maybe it’s me but I get excited every time a go thru the turnstiles home and away.
I think the last time we really put the hammer down at home was against Torquay and
later Rotherham

You are absolutely correct about the North Bank. I do remember from the early 70’s. (Happy days)
Most managers/clubs actually move the away fans from behind the goal and put them down the sides I.e. Villa, Spurs and Leeds. The club should certainly move TBV back behind the goal.

I'm probably going to get slaughtered for this, but I think that the atmosphere in the ground is sometimes stifled by Block W. Although the Blue Voice has been very positive within the club, I do feel, as someone who sits in Block S, that you sing a few songs that don't really inspire the rest of the ground to join in. If I were asked I'd suggest singing songs more traditionally sung by the majority. That 'We'll be coming' song is just a drone that doesn't really represent anything you associate with the Blues.

But hey ho, that's only my opinion.

Spot on, think there are quite a few people who feel the songs are dull. I'm not totally criticising TBV but agree that if there were some more traditional songs then more people might join in (couldn't be any less). Even a chant of Southend Southend might get a more upbeat atmosphere. Worth a try.
