Anyone else a bit worried about Eastwood.

Beefy

Life President
Freddy was the best player on the pitch tonight. He is every inch a Premiership footballer, no question. Redknapp has £30m in his pocket but can't buy anyone for love nor money and has admitted before that he's been been interested in Eastwood for both Pompey and Southampton.

I'm dreading a bid coming in in the morning.

Props to the lads tonight. Top class performance against a decent side.

It's something that you can't really explain to people at other clubs when they reckon he shouldn't be valued as highly as we think. It's the X factor of football, the bit of potential that hasn't been found out. He's such a good all round player that you could see him getting 20 this season with a bit of support.

I remember last season when League One fans were saying that he'll find it much harder but he proved them wrong by scoring more than his first season. He just has that unpredictability that may have the potential to unsettle even the most experienced defenders.

I'm certainly worried about his good form taking him away but, let's face it, if he's got ten goals by Christmas, we might have a bidding war on our hands because Freddy keeps on improving and keeps on scoring.

Didn't go to the game tonight but had a chat with Ken in the Spread afterwards who informed me Freddy looked "s**t-hot" tonight - I made the exact same comment in response.....Portsmouth are probably the worst opponents he could have played that well in front of with regards to Southend United (or the best depending on whether you'd take the big bucks). Either way I'd expect a bid from the South Coast in the very near future - we already knew 'Arry was interested before tonight.

One thing I'd definitely say though is for Christ's sake Ron get this lads contract extended quick, whether it be so he stays long-term or so we can get a damn good price for him when he does go!!

Couldn't agree more with the comments above.

Friendly or not, anyone who harboured doubts that our Freddy could perform in the Premiership would have seen those doubts evaporate last night. Portsmouth oozed class and, for me, they could have stepped up a gear at any time if they had REALLY wanted to. But Freddy was certainly the bright spark for the evening as he totally dominated the Pompey back line. I'd forgotten both how good Freddy is and how quick!

The downside was that, with every scintillating piece of skill and every darting run, I feared more and more the prospect of a Harry bid materialising this morning. As someone else said above, who else but Harry to take a punt on the man?

But wait a bit. Perhaps it also proved to Southend just what a key player Freddy will be to us (even if that needed proving) and, more importantly, what he could do this year in the Championship. A Freddy with a year's success at this level will be worth far more in a year's time than what Harry would bid at this moment.

Sell him now? Doesn't sound like the Ron Martin we've come to know...

Fingers, legs, toes, eyes (and a couple of pubic hairs) all crossed this morning!!

Echo all the above exactly.....i was wishing they would take him off at half time just so they couldn't see anymore of him.

Speaking to a couple of Pompey fans after the game they would take Freddie for a million plus lua lua....said he was by far the best player on the pitch.....

I just hope he wants to stay a learn a bit more with us whilst the bids are flying around.

It certainly wouldnt of been looking for a job!!!

Is anyone aware of any sell on clauses that were inserted when you signed him from Grays?

I think a season in Championship (or at least until Jan) is what he needs to continue his rise....I didn't see him live last season, but from what I saw whilst he was at Grays and from what I have heard since, tells me enough to know he could do a job for a team in the Premiership.

There were rumours of anything from 10-40%, but when asked Ron Martin has denied any sell-on clause.

So, basically, who knows....

I think personally regardless of what Portsmouth offer we would be mad to sell Freddy right now.

We are on the crest of a wave and have a lot of momentum following back to back promotions. If there was ever a time for us to have a crack at making the top flight its now.

Whilst a decent payday now might seem appealing if Freddy is as good as we know he is and can hit 20 goals this season then its not going to be the likes of Pompey coming in for him but the Newcastles and Spurs of the world. When the big boys come in is when we can really get a bumper return.

I dont think Freddy will want to leave just yet but I do feel it is key to get him tied down for a few years now. Nothing worse than us to lose him on a Bosman or for peanuts at a tribunal.

Not you too Beefy!

Im confident Freddy will be here all this season, then probably leave next summer.

Its a double edge sword really isnt it, we want players with his talent, yet when you get them live in fear of them leaving.

We cant expect him to stay for ever but Id be very disappointed if he didnt give the Championship a go with us for the season.

Someone said on another thread that Harry was not at Roots Hall last night. Can anyone confirm?

my exact words to the General were - 'we're fecked if anything happens to Eastwood'

I said that within the first 15 seconds of the game...

The way he left Mendes for dead, Took it round 3 Premiership defenders with ease and slotted home past a top class keeper with what seemed like no effort at all... And that was before he even got going....

It's not as if it was a one-off bit of skill, he continously done it and was unlucky when he blasted inches wide from a similar run. I can't see how any manager could not be impressed by him last night... And he's only 22

Although i'd hate to see him leave, I've been pretty much resigned to the fact he'll go soon after his performance against Swansea away last season. We won't sell him now with the season only a week away, but i can see him going at Christmas if he plays like that Week in/Week out....

Still, the £4m Ron will push for will sweeten the blow.

I heard that 'Arry wasn't actually at the game last night. He was at Cork City's match against Red Star Belgrade, keeping tabs on their giant striker Nikola Zigic.

Still I'm sure word got back to him that Freddy was awesome.

I'm not sure a move would suit him now tbh; especially to Pompey, who more than likely will be down the bottom of the Prem again. Don't get me wrong, the kid will play in the Premiership, but if Pompey lose their way there's every chance he could be benched and not make the desired impact. I reckon there's a chance, if he's banging them in prior to January, that an even bigger club will look to sign him. But I'm confident he'll stay until then.

When my father in law was picking up his ticket last night the bloke in front of him was picking up tickets for the "Blackburn Scouts". Hopefully this was a troop of 12 year olds and not someone having a look at Mr Eastwood.

Could have been there for anyone - my money would be on Lua-Lua - Hughes wants another striker and Lua-Lua wants out of Pompey...

I had exactly the same feelings last night, even before he scored we all knew of 'arrys interest in Freddy.

Freddy was just awesome last night!!!

I still can't get over that goal in the first 15 seconds, it was stunning

I just hope he stays!

The 40/1 on offer with Hills on him becoming top Championship goalscorer look very very tasty, i might have to indulge!
