Another new Shirt?

First XI
So, Shrimpers fans will have to fork out yet again for another new strip for the forthcoming season. Thats on top of 3 new shirts last season and 2 the season before. Its no exaggeration to say that we have had more shirts than Man Utd over the past 5 or 6 seasons!
Yes, its true that no-one is forced to buy the shirts but there are many fans who want to show their support and want to wear the latest kit. In some cases people will have paid out in excess of £150 in just 12 months on replica shirts!, not to mention those parents who are buying for their kids as well.

Not only this but now we learn our erstwhile directors have forseen another 'commercial opportunity' and are considering a switch to blue/white stripes, a colour we last wore over 25 years ago!
Memo to Ron: we paly in BLUE - you changed our nickname to 'the Blues' recently (we are the SHRIMPERS!) are we to change again to 'the stripes' ? - STOP!

I'm not arguing that the club shouldn't make out of replica shirts, but their seems an element of sheer greed that has crept in recently. If Man Utd had issued as many replica kits as Southend has in the past 2 years then you can be sure the tabloids would have been up-in-arms.

This is clearly an issue of concern with a lot of fans and we look to the SUSCT to express our thoughts to the club. I cant afford another £40 on yet another shirt another shirt, I'm on a low wage and still paying for Cardiff and my new season ticket.

So my question to the Trust...
Are you 'consulting' with fans to get their reaction to this latest shirt change? Is there a strong opinion that we've seen one-too-many new kits lately? How about getting the club to agree that our new 2-year sponsorship deal can mean we keep the same kit for 2-seasons? (just for a change!).

Will the Trust persue this with the club and go on the attack? (or are we all afraid of upsetting Ron+Geoffrey?) Make clear the strength of feeling over this one. This is the kind of issue I feel the trust should be tackling! PLEASE STAND UP FOR THE FANS!

Right, rant over, anyone got any comments?

Blue, White, Red, Silver....

That's 4, surely?!

I can feel a poll coming on....

The sponsors changed therefore so have the shirts.

As I understand it the stripey shirt rumour is as yet unconfirmed.

it's only a rumour, so the Trust is not in a position to comment yet

ps The Trust does stand up for the fans, but it can hardly attack the club over something which hasn't actually happened yet!

The Topic of Shirt Colour/Design may well be on the agenda of our next Liaison Meeting with the Club

Napster - I disagree with you. You can tell the club the grounswell of opinion BEFORE anythings been finalised. If you wait until its done then we'll all be told "its too late now, nobody said anything before and we didnt get any feedback" !

Well, yes, and no. The club read this board in any case, so can gauge fan's reaction.

The club can hardly claim to have got no feedback if they didn't tell us what they were doing in the first place!

Whilst you're at it can you ask the club to supply more pies as well. They always fail to meet demand.

It's a reach seam of revenue just waiting to be harvested.

Also can they get some more of the Cornish pasties they had for the luton LDV game.

Cheers.

But surely we cant relay on the fact they read this board ?

Its the place of the trust to tell the club what the fans want and think.

Over the last few years the shirts have been very poor in quality in my opinion.

a) no, of course not, I never said that
b) yes, it is, but fans have got to make their feelings known as well. It's all very well the committee saying everyone's in up arms about it, but if there's no evidence to support this, we'll be laughed out of the room. Fans have to go to the club as well as the Trust
c) well, that's subjective.

ps how does the Trust know what the fans think? We're not telepathic!

I've never seen a football shirt that isn't poor quality.

They're not hand made on Saville row.

But Southends tend to be VERY poor compared to the rest.

Slight difference in semantics.

Only a few fans are stating their feelings, and I know some of them are going straight to RM, rather than argue the toss on here.

Most fans don't have any idea !

Its up to the trust to raise issues and make them aware.

Really? You tested THE REST? Why don't you start a website that reviews all the shirts you've quality tested? That would be interesting.

What shirts make your top ten and why?

They do a lovely Pukka in the Greens ... when they have them of course.

why is it up to the Trust? Can't people think for themselves?

There seems to be an over-reliance on the Trust here- the problem with that approach is if nothing happens, it's easy to blame the Trust, but if you haven't put in any effort yourself, it's a case of oh well.

Apathy is our worst enemy. You don't like something? Tell the club AND the Trust. Plus your mates, SZ and Yahoo Groups.
