Andy Murray

stevie_G_G_G

The OG King
Just crashed out of the Austrailian open in the first round!!!

I really thought he had a chance to go far in this tournement.

Really disappointing performance. Bad news when a British player facing Tsonga which is strange as he seems to be easily beatable in the games I've seen him play non-British opposition.

Perhaps more annoying is that this is the first major I've not backed Tsonga in the outright!

Was a bit surprised when I saw this on SSN this morning.
Makes me wonder if Murray is going to be another one of those GB tennis players that spends his career flattering to decieve...

I hope not, he is still young and i think he is potentially alot better than Henman. And Sam, he is british as he plays for the Great Britain Davis Cup team :finger:

Potentially he is. But Henman potentially had the game to win Wimbledon and failed....
There has been a lot bandied about regarding the new surface they installed at Melbourne as well, I wonder if that had an effect on his game?

He was born in glasgow which i think makes him scottish:p

Don't forget his pre World Cup "anyone but England" rants of 2 years ago on Soccer AM and in other media articles!

*** sits and waits for MtS to come along and tell me to get a grip, not bear grudges and give him some space as "what teenager in the public eye hasn't said something daft and been taken out of context?" *** :p

I'll do it instead. Leave him be you :p

As he's just lost, he's Scottish. Next time he does well in a tournament he can be British again.

That'll be the exact press line.

The best in that category falls to Canada though. When Ben Johnson "won" the Olympic Hero Zooms to Olympic Glory", followed three days later, after his positive dope test, by "Drug Shame of Jamaican Immigrant"

Exactly mate....

If the leader of the Scottish parliament can tell me to take my St George cross down from the front of my house and get away with it i am sure dopy bolllox Murray can get away with slagging the English with out much flack

He is as Glasgow says.....An egotistical Jingoistic tw*t

Have you got a St Georges X outside your house then?
I would love to get one purely for the intimidation factor but as pointed out by the Mrs, why not go the whole hog & put up a 6' neon sign saying "Please Vandalise my Property" :p

Not all the time.......but during Major tournaments that England are in....geez it will need the cobwebs blown of in 10 years.

Alex Salmond lives a few doors down and chapped on my door....taking the **** out of it...GIT, still he follows the Blue Toon so he can’t really take the **** out of me

How is it fair he can be Scotland's First Minister but also still a Westminster MP? Discuss :p

First Minister Alex Salmond should quit as an MP as his voting record shows he treats constituents "with contempt"
Mr Salmond is a member of both the Scottish and UK Parliaments and says he will remain so until the next election.
The Tories point out that since the SNP won power last May, he has taken part in four of 149 Westminster votes.
But the SNP said its MPs only took part in votes on Scottish issues and called the Conservatives' claims "desperate".
Mr Salmond has been MP for Banff and Buchan since 1987 and was elected to the Scottish Parliament in May last year, as MSP for Gordon, as well as becoming First Minister of Scotland.
'Part-time MP'
He has previously faced calls from Labour and the Lib Dems to resign his Westminster seat - but Mr Salmond has pointed out that other MSPs have served as MPs, including former deputy first minister Jim Wallace and former first minister Donald Dewar.
Deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives Murdo Fraser told the BBC he had warned that if Mr Salmond became MSP for Gordon, the constituency would be getting a part-time MP until the next Westminster election, which could be as late as 2010.
He said: "The current situation will mean that, for up to three years, Alex Salmond will be doing three jobs at once.
"He simply is not doing the job of Member of Parliament for Banff and Buchan. It's inconceivable that he can carry on like this.
"Alex Salmond needs to step down, so there can be a by-election and Banff and Buchan can have a full-time MP again.
"To do otherwise is treating his constituency with contempt."
But an SNP spokesman told the BBC it was a "desperate" move from the Conservatives - and said Mr Salmond had made it clear to voters in both his constituencies that he would stand for both jobs.

Usual Murray rubbish then!

Rant?? Have you actually seen the interview in which he says it? You appear to have been brainwashed by the English media. He's not English and England were comfortably one of the dullest teams to watch at the time - probably only Switzerland could out-dull us. Why would he support us? If I wasn't an English fan, I'd want turgid England out of the tournament as early as possible to let the more entertaining teams battle it out.

British tennis player in "I'm ****" shocker

He's been a better representative in his sport than any English/British team barring possibly the rugby team at the World Cup. Tsonga's a dangerous opponent and Murray had an off game. It happens. He almost qualified for the Masters event last year in spite of missing several months through injury which is remarkable.

He is as Glasgow says.....An egotistical Jingoistic

Seems a bit hypocritical.

Potentially he is. But Henman potentially had the game to win Wimbledon and failed....
There has been a lot bandied about regarding the new surface they installed at Melbourne as well, I wonder if that had an effect on his game?

Good to see the reasonable question not getting a response. I don't actually think the relaid surface played much of a part. From what little I saw, he was distinctly off his game and when that happens, his shots seem to become feeble. The last thing you want is feebleness up against a player with Tsonga's power. I still think he's searching for a bit of maturity. All his best performances have come when he's bottled up his emotions more and aggressively gone after everything the opposition hit back. If he could make his bad days somewhere closer to average then he would stand a real chance at grand slams as he has the game to beat anyone.

I would say he has potential to be far, far better than Henman. the problem for Henman seemed that he could so rarely dominate games. If you want to win a major, you must not get taken to 4/5 sets inyour first few games unless you have superhuman fitness (i.e. Nadal). Henman seemed to regularly get pegged back in this manner and was always likely to fade as tournaments went on.

Murray, on the other hand won't have to wait til he's 28 before he has a serve that can win him games and wins points on shots the other player thought were winners. If I was playing Murray, I'd concentrate on keepign the ball in court as much as possible, let him linger on his mistakes and hope that he will get frustrated with his form. If he can display more mental toughness then his hot form will seem more like a relentless barrage and he can then really dominate less formidable opponents like Tsonga.
