Just to qualify that slightly, Verdasco is ranked 30th in the world so I suppose it's not as poor a performance as I thought. Still, Murray has taught us to expect better.

More indifferent form against Davdenko. You can tell that he's a more talented player but his form is fluctuating so much. Currently a set down and in all hoensty it's because he wasn't aggressive enough at 0-15 on Davydenko's serve in the first set.

I thought the new coaching was supposed to mkae him better. I really hope this isn't a tactical decision on his part because he's nowhere near as dangerous playing like this. I guess it will help him conserve energy

Looks like Murray is going out.....shame, i would like to have seen him do well for Britian!

to be fair, both players have been so hot and cold that you wouldn't rule out a Murray victory still but a set and a break down against one of the top players and it's a big ask.

Shame he spurned so many opportunities.

would it be harsh to say "typical murray"?

Not at all, he flatters to deceive, and yet it's Henman who reached several grand slam semi-finals who 'hasn't got the winning mentality'. Murray is talented, but he's a knob and a sweaty.

As for the other discussion point on this thread, I am firmly behind AS and Glasgow on this. Scots base their identity on hating the English, whilst I don't think the opposite applies.

Typical of his career so far, yes.

Very little top drawer stuff from Murray but he stormed in to the second set only to meekly surrender it. This was a real opportunity as I think he is better than Davydenko but Dayvdenko is the benchmark for the top 4/5 in the world and if Murray aspires to that, he has to be more aggressive on big poitns (something he never had problems with before) to keep the opponent on the back foot.

All that said, he was 4/1 to even get past the first round so quarters isn't too bad.

Could all posters stop refering to Mr Murray as a "sweaty" as our Scottish contingent find the phrase offensive and bordering on racism.

Thanking you all in anticipation.

Ken,

No problem....will never use that word again. in that context.

With out wanting to sound like i am a Dog with a bone, can i just clear up one thing as i feel it is important with regards to what people are labelled as?

Using the term sweaty is not nearly as racist as saying that all Scots hate English.

Not inclined towards opening a can of worms here though.

What a cracking forum, so much better then the SZFC ones ha. Nothing better then an England vrs Scotland thread - they hate us, we hate them blah blah boring.

Having been to Scotland once or twice I've never had any problems up there at all, there's always going to be banter between different groups, whether England/Scotland or Spurs/Arsenal - its all part of mixing with each other.

As for AM, he's a good player with cracking potential and has a good chance of winning a major title at some point - he could do with a few lessons in public relations though (Davis Cup dropout, England comments, language during games).

Eat your worms sunshine.

No, no - my public relations have been good recently. Not to mention that this line of thread debate has been done to death in the past and any new debate will not have a conclusion if previous ones are to go by. I've even just deleted what I started writing in the name of diplomacy!
