Alex Revell

Started his loan at Swindon quite well and ended last season at Wycombe in good form aswell.

If he were in the side now with a natural winger playing, we may have seen more goals.

Corr is a similar player but the early signs are he's going to get more service.

Was so much better than most gave him credit for. Had a lot of quality and could offer the side something. Glad he is doing well as a great bloke too.

I presume the last thread got wiped in the Great SZ Crash of 2010...

Interviewed him a couple of days ago, and he had some interesting stuff to say about Southend. I'll give you the full lowdown when I get round to transcribing it, but the basics are:

  • Loved the fans
  • Didn't learn anything from Tilson, and felt he was treading water at the club
  • Geoff King is a c***

That middle point is interesting... I often thought that one of Tilson's failings was not knowing how to get the most out of strikers, especially when compared to the comprehensive impact he had on the midfielders we've had at the club (apart from El Macca, who regressed in his time here). It's certainly not much of a coincidence that we had twice as many centre forwards under Tilson than we did central midfielders.

Who was treading water: Revell or Tilson?

And Barnard was only brought on by Freedman I think. At least when they'd play together he'd always be giving him instructions on-and-on.

... and the fact that Barnard was on the pitch instead of being injured may have helped.

miss old revs worked his socks of and has he has proved he does know where the back on the net is. one of those players who i would have liked to stay on.

He said exactly the same to me in Brentwood Nando's a couple of months back!

I met Matt Harrold and he said exactly the same of Tilly - didn't think he was a good manager. Simon Francis was also there and he completely disagreed saying he thought Tilly was a great manager - perhaps Tilly found it difficult with the big targetmen.

Revell was too good for us. A man of meagre of ability like Tilson could never hope to teach him anything.

Being serious though, I think Tilson's problem with target men started when he had to play in the same team as Andy Rammell.

Two differing opinions doesnt surprise me....

One from a player that played lots of games, (francis) and one that didnt....

I think its pretty common that players who dont get played under a manager dont rate them. Its no coincidence, happens at all levels of football.

Exactly. Marek Schmid told me that Alex Ferguson was the worst manager he'd ever played for although after he bombed out of blues he said that Rob Newman was a close second.
