Alex Revell - Is work-rate good enough?

Yes he has a great work rate, he doesnt stop running and will give 100 percent....

...but when is giving 100 percent and having a good work rate not enough? he clearly has a very poor finish for a striker and maybe not the ability we need/desire to reach the playoffs and further.

its a tough one but like matt harrold, when does work rate become simply not enough?

This is the thing with Revell for me is he does put in 110% there is no question of that but how do you tell somebody that despite that they do not cut the mustard, though I could see him as a good player to throw on with 15 mins to go with that work rate he should be able to cause defences allot of trouble.

If we had a prolific goalscorer in our team scoring for fun at the moment, this thread wouldn't exist.

Revell has himself admitted that he is not a goalscorer and he is more of a player looking to bring in other players into play by flicking on the ball and winning aireal balls.
When somebody is fit [I think barnard], then he would be the perfect foil for them. Revell winning the flick-ons and Banard slotting them home.

Revell brings alot more to this squad than what people seem to appreciate and I fear the boo-boys may start on him soon and he may be chased out the club - like Harrold.

Long live the revster.

That is a problem for him. You can run all day but if your a striker and rarely score then he might not play when Barnard and Freedman are fully git. If he was a midfielder then he would be praised weekly for his effort but he needs to start scoring IMO to get his confidence up and challenge for a place in the team. Come on Revs we believe in ya!

If he is in the team and we are scoring freely [using the process above], then why would he need to be dropped in the first place?

I fear he may end up being targeted by the boo-boys, and thats not what I want for him. He deserves more than that.

If Revell is playing up front with someone like Barnard or Freedman who are both more than capable of scoring the goals, you don't need Revell to be scoring that many, if he can chip in with 5-10 then that's great. But if he's not in the team winning the flick on's Barnard and Freedman aren't going to score a lot if they're not getting the service.

Lay off Revell.

I've always supported Revell and have said so publicly on this board. However, I thought he was quite poor yesterday and was shocked he got man of the match. Good player to come off the bench but neither him or Laurent are ready to fill Freedman or Barnards shoes yet

Sorry do not rate him gives 100% but sadly we need goals he wont get 5 a season therefore a poor return for any striker at any level.

Sorry maybe we should loan him to Peter Taylor he will get the best out of him!!!!!

I think Revell is one of those players that gives 100% in terms of effort but, in terms of natural ability, i would imagine he is one of the worst players at the club. However, I think every team needs one or two workhorses in the team and therefore I think he is a good player to have at the club as he gives us a bit of balance. My last point is that I think Harrold is at least as good, if not a better player, than Revell. Shame the boo boys chased him out.

revs plays his part in the team very well. people miss the work he does because its not pretty.

i think we need him in the team. plus i respect him for his attitude.

Yes, I agree with this. He's also always the one chasing down the keeper and putting him under pressure - if Dougie's not on the pitch anyway.

And Freedman seem to have struck up a reasonable understanding with Revell, always knowing he's likely to win and looking to feed off the flick ons in the air.

Barney & Laurent may have to work his socks off to force their way into the side when given the opportunity from the bench ?

This is a win win situation, as we want our subs to make an impact and turn things around when needed. That's just what we want - a strong bench.

this is a good point. it's been a while since we've had anything on the bench so this is good news. hope to laurent in the squad today as really rate him.

but tilly needs to realise that if he wants barney to make any effect on the game 5-10 is not the way to go about it. give im 20 or none imo.

laurent on the other hand i think can be a great sub, as he's fast and very strong. with a team weakening towards the end i think he could be our secret weapon. he did it against swindon.

Revs brings far more than scoring goals,He wins plenty in the air and holds it well in addition he gets stuck into the oppo.

For me Freedman is a luxury lazy player who has a poor workrate who rarely wins 50/50 ,His miss was simply shocking and for my money his performance against the cobblers does not warrant a starting place against MK.

Revell will never be prolific, he even knows that. But he chips in with a few goals. I'd liken him to Wayne Gray (not in terms of playing style, pace etc) but in the respect he may only get 10 a season at tops but will work hard and create openings for other players.

If you have one striker who gets 10 goals (Goater, Revell/ Walker/ Dougie) and one striker who (CAN STAY FIT!) can get 20 goals (Eastwood, Barnard) then you have a fighting chance imo. Plus you have a fairly good strike force.

People are all to quick to jump on players backs, as I have been in the past.

100% Correct.

I recon i could of scored three myself as well.

Well he has 3 already. You want a wager he won't score at least 2 more then?
