AGM Meeting

Didn't go myself...

But nicked this report from one of the guys over at SOL...

After sitting through the trust AGM ,seriously no AGM's are fun are they, no offence though guys Ron Martin took the floor for about 75 minutes to talk about the new ground, the club and all things southend.

Rob Craven was scrawling down detailed notes which i assume will appear somewhere in detail shortly but a few points were:

Ron is confident the new ground will go through hopefully ready for a august 2008 kick off.

Although initial capacity is 22,000 the foundations will allow for the east stand roof to be lifted to allow an increase to 30,000 when we are in the prem

The ground will hopefully go through as it is whether we are in Championship or conference

Col Ewe spoke to GK this week and it seems that Cuckoo Farm is still around 5 weeks away

Tilly & Brush are on 4 year contracts and have the same visions for the club as RM

9 teams enquired after freddy including plymouth derby & cardiff and WBA were particularly miffed when RM wouldnt even let them make an offer. He said Freddy will not be sold in January even if a bid of £5,000,000 comes in. Although we can't match prem wages he is confident we can match any he can get in the championship.

Ron was particularly miffed when Rob Newman stuck his oar in over Norwich/Tilly

When questioned over why Ricketts left RM said he couldnt tell us the truth. He said he left by mutual consent. but hinted at fitness etc. He also said Team spirit/morale had improved greatly since he left and thinks that lead to the improved performance at Burnley and hopes for more of the same on saturday.

It struck me that Ron is immensly proud of both the Club and the New Ground which RM confirmed won't be named after him but he hasnt ruled out corporate sponsership which he reckoned could pull in over £1,000,000. He hinted at going for RBS.

After the talk i spoke to the pretty young lady in charge of the PR stuff. I can recommend you go see her, sorry the ground

She confirmed that the West (Main stand) is two tiered to incorporate hospitality etc and the rest is single tiered. The away fans have been allocated a corner in the North East section so its home fans behind both goals

Anyone from the Zone go tonight?

Anything to add?

Yup, on the committee so I was obliged to show my mug

Only that Ron made reference to Tilly having his eye on two, possibly three players he wants to get in but it would probably be in the January transfer window.

There was much more but Iv'e got a head like a seive:( Very suprised no one brought up the subject of Colleymore. Ron more or less even invited questions on the guy when he mentioned he has the same agent as Ricketts.

Thanks for that update, the part about Freddy really reassuring, lets hope it works out that way.

Good work.

Cheers Smiffy. Interesting point about Ricketts and how the spirit has improved since he left, maybe this is the start of a good run for us.

Excellent report as always from Mr Craven - a good night was had by all, and if anyone was in any doubt - Ron Martin is in charge, and he will push this project through.

This is a great time to be a supporter of Southend United Football Club - let's seize the day, and push forward...

TOGETHER

Great to see that about Freddy, really has brightened up my morning!!

Good news about Col Ewe, and that our ground does not depend on our league standing!!

pleased to hear Tilly is still on the llok out for talent, and very pleased to hear he was happy to mentions Ricketts, and morale, good work Ron!!

That man is an absolute hero!!

You say in football about the manager and his assistant being a crucial team, but I cant think of a club with more of a three man team than us, Ron, Tilly and Brush all that the same visions, and with them there is nowhere that we cant (in time) go.

PROUD TO BE A SHRIMPER!!

Nothing pleases me more than to hear Fossetts Farm and "3 months after approval" in the same sentence, compared with Cuckoo Farm being 5 years away...

Don't want to put a downer on this thread, as the plans and ambitions look great. But would we fill 22,000 seats if we weren't in at least the Championship? I know we took loads of people to Cardiff, but they were exceptional circumstances, not £30 games against Plymouth

Or would improved parking / transport encourage more families to make the journey? It's a lot less central for rail users for example, like myself...

With the mad scramble for tickets to Layer Road, and the awful facilities and views, I hope Col Ewe get their stadium soon. Think of taking 3,000 -4,000 there.

As one of several London-based Shrimpers, that concerns me too.

Not as much as the absence of that Fish'n'Chip shop though.
