I still think they need to show respect to fans and they WILL get it back!

Why do you think it works for Clohessy?
Cos he's too embarrassed about your "man love" to say otherwise? How can you say you don't slag players off when you've done nothing but exactly that recently?

Honestly, I was going to go kind on you bearing in mind the email you sent round the committee earlier, but clearly it's not of the relevance you implied earlier.

You, Scott, are an embarrassment to the club. The players might tolerate you because it's the easiest option, but the sooner you realise you aren't as important to them as you like to think you are the better.

Some of the best games away that I remember with Col.U. is because the home team have applauded us after the match.
We've all been there, chucking down on a February night, midweek game, wet, miserable and mid-table.
Nothing to play for but you were there :Worthy:

Slag them off??? The only things I have spoken about recently are Ron Martin + the club itself and the players photo (not the players fault)

Nice of you to raise that and bring up the fact I have had to deal with my dad being upset something I have never seen ever in 26 years at the loss of his brother and I can't attend the trust event tomorrow night as I am up helping some of my family in Clacton - and you comment like I don't care

You, Scott, are an embarrassment to the club.

Thanks

Words can't express right now how angry and upset you have just made me with them last 2 quotes

very rare for the home fans to applaud the away fans if the away team has won ....................:winking:

Haha give over. Oldest excuse in the book. To be honest most of the fans walked away sharpish so dont see why the players need to but not for your reason. I didnt hear much booing or abuse but to be fair weve just lost 1-0 at home to Accrington Stanley, who were a very poor side.

I've heard booing and abuse of players when we've been winning. I was being flippant with my original comment, fans always demand respect and loyalty from players but it's a two way street as others have pointed out.

They clap at away games, because the fans have gone quite far to see the team. Also away fans usually stay, so there is more point to clap. The only place they'll get if they leave early, is their seat on a coach home...

Couldn't care less what the players do after the whistle*. If they want to show appreciation for the lukewarm support from the Southend fickle then they need only give their all during the 90 minutes as far as I'm concerned.

*Attacking opponents with scissors isn't advisable though.

I said the same thing yesterday, Clohessey and Prosser were the only ones to do so, I think it's a poor showing they need to show respect to get respect, I said it before and Sturrock should tell them to show their appreciation!

I suppose it is a matter of personal choice (except when a manager or club requests playes show appreciation) on the part of the player....and of course how they feel.

Sometimes the emotion and disappointment of losing can get to a player and he is in no mood to applaud anything.
I can confirm that with a personal experience. Hartlepool United away, Sept 1976. At the final whistle, a 14 year old me ran on to the pitch and stupidly asked Dave Cunningham if he was pleased with a point?? Ha ha...he went ballistic..in a very angry, Scottish way. The answer was..no!

The away team always applaud their fans more than the home team at any football match because they only have to go to one area of the stadium and their fans have travelled much further to be at the game. And in the case of Accrington yesterday they'd won the game. I agree that yesterday was quite a poor showing though, Clohessy's the only one I noticed applauding the North-West area. But I imagine after losing to Accrington and playing in that heat for 90 minutes most of them just wanted to get off.

Hall went all the way round too I think.

Yeah I was going to say about this most if them rushed off down the tunnel!

They need to give a bit of respect in my book

Respect works both ways and with the way some of the people criticised them on Saturday I'm not surprised they buggered off.

Tilly introduced this post-match lap of honour. Does it happen at any of the other 91 clubs?

I think this is out of order, I was in the north bank on saturday and one of the few things that was a positive for me was the crowd in the north bank getting behind the team for the last 20 mins or so, at 1-0 down and the rest of the ground like a morgue, True Blue lead the signing and chanting with the drum to spur the team on when others had already given up and moaning we're going down!
I don't known the guy personally and at times he seems to like to self promote himself on here, but i totally disagree with OldBlueLadies comments and say that True Blue is an asset to the club and a good loyal supporter who cares for the club.

Afternoon all

I would like to discuss an opinion of mine , that I have a problem with immediately after the game .

When we lose , I feel that it is really poor of some of the squad , to simply rush off done the tunnel , without coming round and clapping the supporters for turning up ....

Not all of the squad do it , Clohessy, Philips are two regulars that go to the west stand and walk round to the south to clap the fans .... However most do not , and its even worse when we have a bad day , as they scuttle down the tunnel and cant get away qucik enough.......and that really ticks me off.....

Most of us turn up come what may , and support them through thick and thin, but I feel that this small gesture goes along way to show that they at least recognise that the bulk of people support them .

Yesterday, the Accies went over to the ''74'' away fans and applauded them to a man, and that impressed me.

Would like to discuss this

Or is it just me who thinks they could do a little more...???

Of course they did, they had won and werent being booed.

Always think players should acknowledge the fans after though this is normally an away team custom to say thanks for travelling. Hardly worthy of thanking us for turning up to our own ground and then all sitting their quiet for 90% of the game because it was so hot we all wanted to be asleep on a sun lounger :)

I cant believe people are really that bothered with the fact some of the players didnt walk round and clap.

Personally I couldnt think of anything worse then playing 90 min in that heat then walking round to clap more then half empty stands
