Adam Thompson

Very good interview - and interesting too. Some good words for Southend and Phil Brown in there, Anton too. It seems like his decision to leave was a 50/50 one in his head at the time and clearly it was one that he feels he got wrong, with the benefit of hindsight. Must have been a very tough time for him to have made that call himself and gone from a great atmosphere to a hell hole, being immediately farmed out to another hell hole. Lee Clark seems to be the issue there - all over Thompson like a rash to get him to sign, then saying he can leave in the same transfer window! Unbelievable.

Very honest interview that, quite refreshing. I was under the impression we originally offered him a 2 year deal, with his agent saying he was worth more in an Echo interview. Can anyone remember / confirm this?

EDIT: Found it. 2 year deal but was Thompson himself who stated the deal wasn't good enough. I'd assume this played a part in him leaving.

That's the problem with agents, why can they not discuss them face to face with Chairman/Manager, cut out the agents fee and they would get a better deal re money

We are hardly talking Messi/Ronaldo at this level of negotiations

No player is really working 9-5, so have plenty of time after training to sort out their own affairs

Hi,

I've not been on here for some time, my club has given me a nervous breakdown!

Anyway, your ex player Adam Thompson is currently training with us after leaving Bury, just wondered would he be a good addition for us in League 1? We only need about 15 players lol.

Many Thanks, Gaz.

He’s probably better than what you have so far! I’m not sure that’s helped much though. Haven’t seen him play for years now, but we thought he was a good player while with us until he hawked himself off for an extra tenner a week to Bury (and we can all see now how much they could actually afford to do that!)

At his best with us he partnered Anton Ferdinand and he certainly learnt from Anton. I occasionally visit the Bury Forum and he was held in high stead with them during their 18/19 promotion season. I guess the only way you're going to tell is by him playing for you. I liked him as a player with us but he was prone the occasional 50p head in the air. Good luck for this season, I reckon you are going to need it.

Going from one club he's not getting paid to another club he might not get paid at. He's a sucker for punishment, I'll give him that

His best season with us was his last. He is not the biggest or tallest but if he commits fully he looked good.

As others have said he looked better with the safety net of Anton behind him sweeping and talking. Not that Anton had to cover for loads of mistakes it was just clearly noticeable to most of us how more confident he looked.

If he plays in a flat 2 CB's, like some players he doesn't jump all over the forward because no one is covering behind. Then he would often look average.

I have no idea how Lee Clark intended to use him but he wanted him out before the season had even started.....So who knows why he didn't like what he saw.

Any way Gaz nice to here from you and as per usual its the fans who have to suffer most in these cases.....Rather than points deductions why not free football for the fans with those that broke the rules to foot the bill. Anyway that's for when I become PM.

A bit of lower league advice to your fans. Don't judge players on your history other wise you could end up doing a Pompey and spending several miserable and moany years in the basement.

Don't take this the wrong way but Bolton Bury and beggars cant be choosers. So good luck and welcome back to the lower league brotherhood.

My view on Adam Thompson is... Fully committed, a real trier. Not too bad with passing or decision making when winning, but can resort to hoofing too much when the team is losing. Could do with being a bit taller as he can get dominated in the air by the taller forwards. Average pace. He normally held his position, and was always looking along the back line to catch forwards in the offside trap.

Very young when he was with us, another who had quite a long stretch out with injury, but I remember seeing him training much longer and harder than he needed to that infamous day when Phil Brown had his back waxed for charity live on air - a sight, in the flesh, never to be forgotten, lol!

He was a hard worker, and a trier. Definitely better with someone experienced alongside while here, but may have grown more independent since. You could definitely do worse.

Good League 2 player at best. He will probably be cheapish so worth a punt in your position even if only used occasionally and as cover.

Adam Thompson played in a friendly today against Bradford, he played alongside David Wheater, I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign for us.
